Wild Geese Arrive As Snow Dips Town Quietly

Light snow fell late Thursday morning with sun by Friday. Flocks of wild geese, estimated at 200, circled over town Wednesday night, disturbing residents. Travelers reported more flocks near Anderson. Local wedding notices list Mrs J D Calvert and relatives visiting, with upcoming Miami trip. County schools report 3 528 pupils and fire well repairs underway.

Death of John G. Holt in Spiceland at 82

John G. Holt, 82, of Spiceland, died Saturday evening at his son Howard Holt’s home in Greenfield after Civil War illnesses. He served in Co E, 9th Indiana Cavalry, 121st Regiment, mustered 1863. He leaves wife Martha, daughter Mrs Margaret Powell, and three sons Warren, Perrin V., and Howard. Funeral Tuesday at Friends Church Spice land, Rev. Ernest Addison officiating. Burial in Spiceland.

The Checker Board Julius Theobald family moved near Shelbyville on Friday. Frank Webb from Knightstown moved into J. F. Tweedy’s East Side park house. John Gillen and family from Denver occupy rooms with Mrs Mary Miller on South Main St and Gillen will work at the mill. The Mosier family and Jody Graff returned from York PA. E J Rainey and family from Rittman Ohio will occupy the residence north of the mill. The S. O. Home basketball team defeated Webb 25 to 23. Lillie Weingart returned from Kendallville and will leave Sunday for Littleton Colorado.

Farm Team Runs Away With Wagon Through Town

A team of large farm horses hitched to a wagon carrying lumber driven by Elza Young of the south rode runaway through town shortly before 11 on Monday forenoon. After leaving the saw mill the horses were frightened by another wagon, ran south on Main Street past the paper mill and across railroad switches. Young stopped them near the mill after guiding past autos at the public square. A tree and Young's hat were recovered along the route.
