Many Taxpayers to Get Refunds
Internal Revenue Bureau officials estimate about three in five filers of 1945 income tax returns will receive refunds. About 30 million of 50 million filers may get back around 1.25 billion dollars, with completion hoped by July 4. Last year 21 million received 1.1 billion in refunds after seven and a half months at a cost of 17 million in interest. This year the bureau aims to reduce interest by at least 10 million through speedier refunds, with interest running from April 1 on 1945 returns due March 15.

Plant Hybrid Corn After May 20 Better
Purdue and local offices report delaying hybrid corn planting until after May 20 reduces yield loss and corn borer risk. Five Acre Corn Contest data show May 21 to 31 planting averaged higher yields than before the 20th, with hybrids now compensating for later maturity. Entomologists note later plantings help suppress corn borers and improve seedbed conditions for nitrification and weed control.
Corn borers timing guides for Indiana corn planting
The advisory outlines three critical planting windows to manage corn borers in central Indiana. Early planting five days before moth emergence and late planting ten days after are less affected, while plantings between these dates avoid most eggs. Ideal period targets late May to early June with May 20 to June 5 as the recommended span. If earlier plantings occur, the entomology department will inform county agents.
