Seventeen Carthage high school graduates received diplomas last Friday at the Community Center. Speaker John J. Haramy urged the class to ponder their future. Principal J. A. Reynolds distributed certificates to eighth graders. The high school band performed and Mrs Alice Fortney played violin with Miss Pierce as accompanist. Better Methods Club Formed by Rush County 4H Boys
A group of older Rush county 4H boys formed a Better Methods club to improve farming practices. The kickoff meeting was held Monday evening May 20 at the county extension office with Jean Littel of Rush county REMC and a representative of Southeastern Indiana Power Company present. The activity is sponsored by Westinghouse Indiana Electric Association and Rush county REMC. Twenty four boys enrolled in the contest and Clarence Arnold directs the group in cooperation with the organization.

Veteran pilot with two artificial legs makes solo flight
Charles S. Pete Colwell, WWII veteran from Westland who lost both legs in Germany, soloed a Taylorcraft at Greenfield Airport after seven and a half hours of GI flight training. Mrs Verna Pitts Expires After Stroke At 61
Mrs Verna S Pitts 61 wife of Harry O Pitts died Thursday evening at her North Main street home after a January stroke in Florida. Born December 21 1884 she married Harry Pitts January 28 1903 surviving with daughters Lucille Bell Greenfield and Ramona Morris Anderson along with siblings Maude Bell and Lawrence Spencer. Funeral Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home with burial in Glencove Cemetery Knightstown.
