Story City Iowa residents over 18 outnumber high school students by two to one with a community education program in the public school building. The class covers community development homemaking farming and public speaking while forums draw leaders from local to New York City. America’s post offices join cancer drive with a $5 million campaign led by Eric Johnston enabling contributions simply addressed Cancer care Post Office to be credited to each county.
Story City school offers music in part singing and theory with records and choral singing meeting a community need. The program began 16 years ago under the high school vocational department and is governed by a community educational council with support from business and women’s organizations. Tuition is a dollar.
Arlington high school seniors joined Arlington juniors on a two day train trip to Indianapolis. The students stayed at the Lincoln hotel and were chaperoned by Mrs. C Winslow Mrs. Paul Stewart Mrs Townshend Mrs Spright and Cecil Elliott.
Mrs. Carlos Heath entertained visitors including Mrs. John Dagler and Johnny of Allentown. The Priscilla club met at Mrs. Howard Brown's home in Homer with seven members and one guest. Mrs. Stanley Williams spoke on Travelling 100 Years Ago and contests were led by Mrs. Lowell Hutchinson. Memorial services were held for Mrs. Schockensey and Mrs. Woods. Mr. and Mrs. William McIntire hosted the Young Married Peoples Class for a luncheon and social gathering at Arlington Christian church.
Allen town Pennsylvania residents Mr and Mrs John Dagler and grandson Johnny visited Sunday afternoon with Mr and Mrs James Cadwallader Pfc and Mrs Howard Baker from Camp Atterbury spent the weekend with relatives Mr and Mrs Lowell Nelson hosted Sunday dinner guests Mr and Mrs Warren Nelson Indianap olis visitors Malcom Dearinger and family called on Mr and Mrs Ray McCloskey Warren Nelson attended Morristown High School Alumni banquet Gene Long and daughter from Shelbyville visited Owen Long family Tampa Florida visitors called on Mrs Owen Wolf
Charlottesville visitors visit relatives as several property transactions occur. Charles Glisson and wife buy the Smalley property while Keith Hamilton and family relocate to a Roberts camp near Montpelier and plan business opening in May. Other moves include Sam Lewman and family purchasing the Neil Zion Walker property and J O Hunt returning from Great Lakes during furlough.
Local residents hosted relatives and friends from Muncie Arlington Indianapolis Rushville and Phoenix over the weekend. John Reed sails for military service next Monday. Hilary Hartwig wounded at Iwo Jima has been sent to Great Lakes for treatment.
The Executor of the Estate of Elnora J Hill has filed a final settlement. Rushville Indiana Rush Circuit Court will hear the matter on May 21, 1945.
