The Carthage High School held its sixty fourth commencement in the Tweedy Memorial Community Center with twenty graduates receiving diplomas. James A Reynolds led the ceremony. Dr George Davis of Purdue delivered the address. Awards included two cash prizes from the Container Corporation and the Women’s Literary Circle for top students in commerce and academics.

Infant John Roberts Dies Hours After Birth
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Marshall died within hours of birth at Henry County Hospital in New Castle. Born Wednesday at 3 am weighing eight pounds, the mother is reported doing well. Services are planned Friday at 10 am at Thompson Funeral Home with burial in Hanover Cemetery near Morristown.

Pfc. Carlos Long of Gwynneville was liberated by American soldiers in Germany after December 1944 capture in Belgium. He told his wife Betty Long in a letter dated April 14 or 15 that tears filled his eyes upon liberation and that he is resting in a home overseas with plans to return soon.

Mrs Lois Colwell of Westland learns her husband Pfc Charles Colwell was wounded as the 1st Army advances toward Berlin. He was treated in a hospital and had part of a leg amputated. Chaplain Fisher reports he is seriously ill yet in good spirits. Colwell has been overseas 12 months after four months in the U S. Mrs Colwell works at a Greenfield medical plant. her parents Mr and Mrs Louis Henderson live nearby.

T-4 Noah W. Brooks from Carthage received the Bronze Star for meritorious service during Allied operations at Bastogne Belgium from December 28 1944 to January 19 1945.
