Shorthorn Cattle Breeders Hold Annual Picnic in Richland
Fifty members of the Shorthorn Cattle Breeders Association and families met at Elmer Lessing’s Richland township home for a June 3 picnic. A noon pitch-in preceded a brief business session led by Marvin Hoeing. The group approved a $100 cash award for a 4-H Shorthorn champion at the Rush County Fair and set plans for the District Gold Medal Calf Show in Rushville on August 3. Committees were named for show outreach, banquet planning, nominating procedures, rosette awards, and pre‑fair 4‑H visits. Additional items cover hog and milk price outlooks, fed cattle prices, corn market parity, and scholarships for teachers attending conservation camps. A new apprentice home demonstration agent, Miss Marjorie Wilkison, begins work in Rush County.
