Wanda Leisure Linda Ewing Marlene Syndefur and Marylin Jackson attended the 4-H Club Round-Up at Purdue University in Lafayette from June 6 to 8.
Mrs Rachel King and Mrs Carrie Bramel left by car for several weeks in California. Mrs King will visit her children at Pico while Mrs Bramel visits her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Robert Gard and their son at Marina.
Mrs C G Hill tripped over a rug at her home Sunday around 10 o’clock, breaking her left arm near the shoulder. She was transported by Thom son ambulance to Rush Memorial hospital, with Mrs Mareiedl Hinshaw accompanying her.
Charles Whitfield attended two district Rural Carrier meetings over the weekend. Saturday night’s gathering was in Santa Claus Indiana and Sunday’s in Loogootee Indiana. Mrs Whitfield and son Joe and Miss Sheryl Mosier accompanied him.
Rev and Mrs Rex Krieg hosted ministers and their wives for a Saturday evening carry in supper. Guests included Rev and Mrs Louis Barrett and family Rev and Mrs Eugene Sommer and family Rev and Mrs Basil Stultz Rev and Mrs Gerald Fleming and Rev and Mrs Dean McCoy and daughter.
Clarence Ruby was taken to the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis on Monday with a serious condition from a stroke. He is the brother of Harold and Donald Ruby and resides in Jackson township.
Max Robertson son of Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson arrived home Monday from San Diego California for a sixteen day furlough He will return to camp and be sent overseas after his furlough.
The Quarterly Pastors Meeting gathered Friday at Rev. Eugene C. Sommer's home with carry-in supper and a business session. Attendees included Rev. and Mrs. William Fisher and family of Charlottesville Rev. Edwin Barker and son of Westland Rev. Albert Bohnert and daughter of Greenfield Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nigh of Carthage and Rev. John Compton of Muncie.
Ivan Schaekel owner of a food market and general store plans to discontinue the general merchandise line and expand the food market. He has hired R C Fo-Land Auction Company of Noblesville to conduct a three day closing out sale selling all stock except groceries, meats and related items.
Dance instructor Miss Beverly Dickinson showcased her students in a Four Seasons revue at Carthage Community Center drawing a good crowd. About twenty local children participated and parents accompanied them in the Indianapolis performance at Harry E. Wood High School on Tuesday.
Mrs Bertha Beck was elected president of the 10th District American Legion Auxiliary for 1956 1957 at a Centerville meeting Tuesday. Attending with Mrs Beck were Mrs Rachel King and Mrs Norma McKain.
Mr and Mrs Howard Souder southeast of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Ross Souder of Greenfield were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Noah Leisure.
A 4-H food sale is set for Saturday June 16 at 9 a.m. at the Citizen Office. Proceeds support 4-H activities and projects. Community members are invited to attend and purchase baked goods and prepared foods.
Carthage Lions Club dinner meeting discusses petition to County Commissioners to straighten the curve on the Carthage Knightstown road near the John Gates farm. Plan calls for a west side fill to widen the curve and a July 2 commission meeting presentation.
Mrs. Maude Porter spent the weekend with her daughter Mrs. Howard Windsor and Mr. Windsor, hosting Kelly Veach, at the Windsors new residence located north of town from Saturday through Monday.
The Rev and Mrs Eugene C Sommer attended the Spring meeting of the Eastern Indiana Association of Congregational Christian Churches held in Farmland on Thursday.

The Tenth District of the National Association of Postmasters met at Shirley town hall with 45 postmasters and guests. Officers elected include John Hupp as president Wayne Crider as vice president Inez Murnan as secretary treasurer and Denzil Mann as membership director. Local figures Douglas Cupp Joseph Porter and visiting Postmaster Al Smith attended along with District Manager Walter Summa and others.
Indiana city and town officialsback a higher state gasoline tax to fund roads. An Indiana Municipal League poll found 335 of 404 officials support a tax boost, favoring a 2 cent increase over 1 cent and even an 8 cent option. The current 4 cent rate is among the lowest nationwide.
Garden club members led by Mrs. Thomas Bush and others visited Hillsdale Rose Garden in Indianapolis and the Wayside Garden on Tuesday. They had lunch at Howard Johnsons near Indianapolis. A separate note records the Harvey reunion at Memorial Park in New Castle with Carl Carson Sr and Jr and families attending.
Past county presidents of Home Economics entertained Home Demonstration club officers and chorus officers at Mrs. For rest Moore's home. Mrs. Cleve Geise greeted guests, and Mrs. Wayne White recounted the Past President's Club history. Pamela Hunt and David Ruby performed instrumental and vocal duets, followed by Mrs. Clarence Arnold's review of Papa's Wife. Delighted guests enjoyed refreshments in the dining room.
Grant Henley is recovering at home after a recent hospital stay and reports improving health. Family and friends express cautious optimism as he resumes daily routines and light activities while continuing any prescribed care.
Carthage scored 13 runs in the first two innings en route to a 15-3 victory over New Salem Sunday. McClurg and Magee each had a single and a triple for Carthage, while Colter led New Salem with a triple and Reynolds added a hit with a double.
Jeanne Marsh daughter of Mr and Mrs Caleb Marsh was admitted to Rush Memorial hospital Monday with rheumatic fever. After about ten days in hospital she will be confined at home as she shows improvement.
Six stops have been planned for the annual 4-Hand Garden tour in Rush County. The event, set for Thursday July 12, will feature Purdue garden expert W. B. Ward guiding discussions at each stop. Attendees will dine at the Henry Stinger farmstead near Carthage followed by a Q&A on garden problems. Committee members include Mrs. T. G. Kelso and Mrs. Hazel Porter.
The Carthage Vacation Bible School children will perform at 7:30 p m Sunday evening at the Community Center. The program caps two weeks of work with handicraft displays for parents and friends. An average of 98 pupils attended the first week with classes for Beginners Primary Juniors and Intermediates.
Mr and Mrs Henry G Stager and Mrs W S Coleman returned Saturday evening from Miami Florida Mrs Stager drove to Florida several days ago while Mr Stager has been in Florida for weeks and Mrs Coleman has spent the winter in Miami Mrs Coleman was in Carthage Monday visiting Mr and Mrs O C McCarty
Frank Littell a 20 year old factory worker from Knightstown and Linda DeWees 17 from Carthage are named in the license record.
A list of social visits shows Mr and Mrs Robert Boff and daughter in Indianapolis, Ralph Mosier with George Mosier in Westfield, Sparks Pike and Mary Jo Herkless from Charlottesville at Whitewater State Park, and numerous other local families hosting and visiting across Anderson Rushville Dayton Shelbyville South Bend Knights Town and surrounding areas.

Entertainment featured Pam Hunt David Ruby trumpet saxophone duet Lynn Kennedy Arlene Cathy Ruby Pam Hunt dance numbers John Allen Ruby Kelly Veach pianists and refreshments served to 177 attendees.
Mrs. Odell Pitts and daughter Marilyn Mrs. Harold Green and daughter of Carthage Mrs. Dar rell McNutt and Mr. and Mrs. Noah Magee of Pendleton attended graduation exercises of David Magee at Indiana University. David Magee majored in Business Management. The group were guests of David at a luncheon at the University Hotel and stayed overnight.
W L C members and guests visited Pendleton Monday touring the park and sites. the group's summer meeting closes with plans for September. Family Father's Day dinner honors relatives from Fort Leonard Wood and various Indiana towns. Local clubs and visits noted across Ripley with multiple hostesses and visitors.
Rush County homemakers joined sessions of the Annual Homemakers Conference at Purdue University June 12 14. A Charter bus carried the group with members from Rushville Posey and Orange townships plus center township including Lenore Foster and Ruth Hinchman. The Rush County Home Demonstration Chorus performed and joined festival activities with other choruses at Purdue Music Hall.
Multiple families share social visits and short trips across Indiana and nearby states. Myrtle Carfield and daughters Alta and Irene stay with Arthur and Ruth Sluyter in Hammond. Others travel for picnics and gatherings in Bean Blossom, Knights Town, Rushville, Marion, Massillon, Syracuse, and Syracuse region communities.
