Mr and Mrs Bill Miller and Mr and Mrs William Alexander are on vacation this week at Lake Shafer Monticello.
Lieutenant Commander Lee Patton of the Naval Reserve is on a two weeks training duty at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker who have been in Texas and Arkansas for several months arrived at their home in Carthage Wednesday night for a homecoming.
Mr and Mrs Fred White and Miss Ruth White attended the alumni meeting at Earlham College in Richmond on Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Roy Miller and their daughter of Henderson North Carolina visit Mrs Miller’s parents Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt. They will move to Indianapolis within two weeks where Mr Miller works.
Miss Kay Sims daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Sims formerly of Carthage joined Psi Iota Xi sorority Greenfield in a pledge service held Sunday June 8 at 8 30 am at the Holiday Lodge following the annual pledge breakfast for eleven pledges.
The Carthage High School Class of 1945 and families gathered at the Carthage school building Sunday for a pitch in dinner and social time to reconnect.
A Saturday talent show in Hagerstown sponsored by the Employees Activities Association of Perfect Circle Corporation drew contests from Indiana plant workers and families. Bettina Murray, daughter of Betty Skinner, won the grand prize for tap dancing with cash awards on offer.
Warren Phelps received the $25 Citizenship award in New Castle Junior High. He earned it for scholarship character and activities, and was active in music and sports. The student leader is Grace Gurley’s grandson and served as band trombone chair and treasurer of the student council.
Rachel King Norman McKain and Bertha Beck attended a Past Presidents Parley dinner and meeting at the Leland Hotel in Richmond Tuesday night hosted by the 10th district Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs Edna Windsor and her son Bill moved this week to 230 East Jackson Street Knightstown. Mr and Mrs Marvin Foust and children moved into the Joanna Gibson property recently vacated by Mr and Mrs Bernard Caldwell.

The 125th annual Indiana Methodist Conference meets June 13 to 17 at Indiana University Auditorium Bloomington with Bishop Richard C. Raines presiding. Rev. J. Wallace Hamilton of Pasadena Florida will preach at services and lead devotional moments. Delegates from 599 churches review work, set policies, budgets, and regional emphasis while major items include a constitutional amendment on Negro church transfers and increased World Service giving. The session closes with ordination and appointment readings.

The E L B O W group met at Mrs. Ruth Hunt's home on Wednesday. Mrs. Mary Helen Dixon and Mrs. Margaret Sparks attended and became members. Dainty refreshments were served at the close of the social evening.
Mrs. Elizabeth Hardin 73 wife of Carl V. Hardin died at her Hancock County home Sunday noon after a long illness. She had recently returned from Memorial hospital Greenfield and is survived by her husband three sons Herschell J Lewis C and Russell W and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Pasco Memorial Mortuary Greenfield. She was sister to the late Walter Manche.
Robert C. Dhonau son of Mr and Mrs Walter Dhonau of Noblesville and formerly of Carthage will be among 324 Butler University seniors to graduate Monday June 11 Later that day he will be among 19 Butler AFROTC cadets commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Air Force Reserve Dhonau a Personnel Management major belongs to Sigma Chi Arnold Air Society and the Society for the Advancement of Management He expects to begin active duty in February reporting to Lackland Air Force Base San Antonio Texas for pilot training
Rush County commissioners heard two requests at the monthly meeting. A Bar Association delegation urged increasing Judge William F. Marshall’s supplementary pay to 1800 yearly, on top of 1200 from the county and 6600 from the state. They also discussed delaying action while auditors in nearby counties are consulted.
The Former Purdue Agriculture Students Ice Cream and Strawberry Feed will be held Sunday evening, June 10, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ewbank in Union township. The event plans were completed by a county extension office committee. Attendees bring their own table service and strawber ries and cake will be provided by members. Gordon Hall will provide accordion music and Ann Kimmell will give a reading. Howard Ewbank will present colored slides on the Tulip Festival at Holland Michigan. All Former Purdue Students are invited.
A. J. Carr of Knightstown with a background in Carthage applies for patents on a new two roll unwind stand for corrugator plants. The device uses side plates and movable stub shafts to align rolls of equal or differing diameters on cradle rollers, providing even tension and synchronized unwinding at machine speed. It can be fixed or mounted on trucks and two stands can be used in double deck fashion to save space.
Mrs Ed Bly hosted the Birthday Group at her home on Tuesday evening for honoree Mrs Richard McNabb. Guests included Mrs Betty Brooks Mrs Stuart Morgan Mrs George B McNabb and others. Health prevented Mrs Worth Pitts from attending due to her son’s illness.

Mrs Lillian Julian entered Rushville Nursing Home at 321 North Morgan Street Rushville on Monday per local notice.
The Carthage Legion Auxiliary held a regular meeting at Mrs. Fern Jackson’s home. President Rachel King presided. officers elected include Hazel Alexander as president Norma McKain first vice president Vera McNabb secretary Bertha Beck treasurer Jane Rhodes historian Dora Ray chaplain Mary Frances Gatewood sergeant at arms. District and state meetings were announced for June August and August 21 at local churches with delegates listed.
Indiana unemployment claims last week totaled about 41 875, up from 41 336 the prior week. Some 7 935 claimants were newly unemployed, with a two week inventory shutdown affecting about 2 500 workers at one plant. Auto workers and suppliers account for roughly 15 530 and 12 625 layoffs respectively.

Carthage defeats Spiceland Yellow Jackets 12 to 1 as pitcher Larry Little fanned 17 and allowed one hit. McClurg led Carthage with 3 for 3, while Lockeridge provided the lone Spiceland hit. Six teams compose the loop including Charlottesville Mt Comfort Boggstown New Palestine and Carthage with forthcoming games scheduled at Greenfield New Salem and Boggs Town.
New Salem 7th and 8th edged Carthage 1-0 on a no hitter by Reiboldt. Rucker and Bly combined on the mound for New Salem which had only two hits, while Watkins caught for Carthage and 20 Carthage players used without scoring.
Lowell H. Wilson Jr. joins the Purdue Agriculture Extension Service in Rush County for in service training this summer. A Purdue senior in agricultural education he has 4H and FFA background with projects in swine corn beans beef and more. He will assist with 4H club programs and the adult extension program.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred White hosted Saturday evening supper with guests including Mrs. Clarence Perisho and children from North Mankato Minnesota Mrs. S. L. Newsom of Terre Haute the Rev. and Mrs. Edgar White of Farmland Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shields and daughter Penina and Miss Ruta White Mrs Perisho and children visit their grandparents for the summer while Mr. Perisho studies in school. Mr and Mrs Howard E Henley joined Mrs Newsom for a Terre Haute trip after visiting relatives. Miss Roberta Ellmore of Indianapolis was a weekend guest of Mr and Mrs John White and family.
