The wheat and oats demonstration plots on the Ralph Miller John Green farm in Rushville township were harvested last week. Each strip was harvested securely weighed and tested for moisture content and test weight. The Rudy variety produced the highest test weight among the oats and wheat varieties.
Test weights for all wheat varieties were lower due to a countywide scab infection. New wheat varieties look promising for future use. oats were generally lighter than last year, with Newton variety at 36 pounds per bushel. Varied oat yields. one new type showed strong yield and test weight. Higher fertilizer amounts largely increased yields in both crops.
Dr. Margaret J. Morgan announces Ralston S. Bauer as State Coordinator of Volunteer Services for Indiana Mental Health. He will coordinate volunteers across 10 state institutions, joining a career spanning Sonoma State Hospital in California and Hastings State Hospital in Minnesota. Bauer, a Marine Corps veteran, earned a B S in Education and Recreation Leadership from Minnesota and a Master of Education in Hospital Recreation.
Mr. Bauer says he is glad to be part of Indiana's Division of Mental Health program. He emphasizes enthusiasm for the ongoing state effort and the vigor of the initiative.
