Mr Padgett reports nearly the required thirty students for a Draughon branch in Carrollton. Arthur C Minter of Draughon’s Southeastern territory will finalize plans once the target is met. Local business leaders have guaranteed thirty students, prompting urgent efforts to secure the balance in the coming days.
A prominent cotton planter reports large swarms of grasshoppers beginning to damage cotton fields in sections of Louisiana and Mississippi after a two week tour of the cotton belt.

H R Hannah a 35 year old cotton buyer from Carrollton visited Atlanta and stayed at the Terminal Hotel. He climbed to a fifth floor window and plunged to the sidewalk, clutching a telephone wire before it broke. He died ten minutes after arrival at Grady hospital. no suicide letter found. Remains taken to Greenberg and Bond.
The Georgia Association of Funeral Directors elected S. C. Kytle as president and S. R B. Greenburg as vice president with C. L. Stephenson as secretary treasurer. Jessie B. Hart was chosen as delegate to the national convention in Atlantic City. An executive board will be appointed within ten days. Delegates and manufacturers' representatives were invited to a barbecue at White City hosted by Gate City Casket and Atlanta Casket companies.
Carrollton firemen claimed multiple prizes at the Firemen's Tournament in Rome including open state and inter-state events. They were greeted by the Chauutauqua Band and escorted to the fire house on return.
Epworth League did not meet last Sunday night due to Chautauqua services. It will gather next Sunday at 7 15 in the Methodist Church Sunday School room with an invitation to lead.
On Saturday afternoon June 7th Mr. R A Herrin was crushed under a threshing machine when a support failed as he worked beneath it. He died within minutes. He was 64 or 65, married to Amanda Kelley since 1871, with a wife, a daughter Gena Mae, and a son W T Herrin of Carrollton Hardware Co. Funeral services were held Sunday at Jordan Cemetery with the Masonic fraternity in attendance.
