Governor elect Hoke Smith will be formally inaugurated next Saturday at noon in the hall of the house of representatives. Chief Justice William H. Fish will administer the oath as the legislature sits in joint session. Smith will deliver an inaugural address, outlining recommendations for the legislature.
Business men petitioned the Department and C E Smith Postmaster announces the office will close after 8 a m on Sundays. No mails will be opened or dispatched after this time while the lobby remains open.
Miss Eugenia Mandeville entertained Tuesday afternoon at 5 30 with Miss May Phelps and Mrs C K Henderson as honored guests. Mesdames Mandeville Newell and Henderson assisted in receiving and entertaining. Out of town guests included Mrs Mattie Strickland Miss Henrietta Strickland Misses Mary and Lutie Powell of Newell Misses Lizzie and Mary Wat king and Mr Homer Wat kins of Whitesburg Miss Blalock of Chattanooga Mrs Stevenson of Atlanta Miss Edwards of Opelika Mr Henderson of Villa Rica and Mr Mangrum of Bremen.
Draughons Business College began building Wednesday with a large number of students in attendance. The college offers the same business courses as in Atlanta and aims to attract students from a thirty mile radius to Carrollton, with strong backing from the Deaghan company to promote and ensure success.
Miss Cora Worley and Mr Wilburn E Wright were married Saturday at 4 30 PM in the Central Baptist church in Atlanta. The bride is the daughter of Capt C W Worley and sister of Mesdames J A Sewell and J A Jackson of this place. The groom is a popular young man from Atlanta.
Miss Marie Adile Manley daughter of Mr and Mrs Robt P Manley and W E Worley son of Capt C W Worley of Atlanta were married at the Church of Transfiguration New York City on June 20. The couple left for a three month European honeymoon after the ceremony.
The convention meets at the Methodist church in Bowdon Georgia on July 28 and 30 1911 with sessions including devotional services addresses and reports. Officers listed are W Dimmock president Carrollton James Beall vice president V D Whatley secretary Bowdon and Hixon chair of the executive committee Villa Rica.
John T. Hixon expresses gratitude to supporters after a recent election. He pledges to work for the greatest good, remaining fair to all as representative and to labor for measured progress.
The mayor and council have resolved to lay cement sidewalks on all main streets and are already working on Depot Street. Although the cost to property owners is 10 cents per square foot or 60 cents per running foot, the move is welcomed as progressive for Carrollton.
The First Methodist Church invites the public to Sunday school at 9 30 a m and worship at 11 a m and 8 p m led by the pastor Epworth League gathers at 7 15 p m for fellowship and programs.
