Blood donation rules and need for steady supplies
An overview explains that healthy adults can donate a pint regularly without harm, that the body rapidly replaces donated blood, and that significant blood loss endangers life. It notes diseases and surgeries requiring transfusions and stresses hospitals need a steady flow of whole blood, usable for about 21 days. It mentions products and by products from donations.
Plasma Fractions Aid Surgery Bleeders and Infections
Research notes that plasma can be fractioned to obtain concentrates with clotting agents for bleeders undergoing surgery. Other fractions contain donor antibodies, globulins, which protect recipients against infections or modify incubating diseases.
Social notes from Utah Power and Light plant communities
Visitors from Logan to Soda Springs and Oneida areas met with local families this week. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, Dear dorffs, Adama family, and Grace employees S. Peterson and others. A wedding reception for Grant Peterson and Sheryl Brown was held June 7 at the LDS Recreation hall in Soda Springs. Carol Scoot, daughter of Conder Smoot, graduated May 24 from Orem High School.
