Town officials prepare for the Miss Caribou pageant hearing night with stage hosts, entries from locals, and tickets sold to cover expenses. Contestants expect prizes, luggage gifts, and a chance to advance to the Miss America pageant, with judges evaluating talent and portraits.

Gov Robert E Smylie helps break ground for a $15 million Central Farmers Fertilizer plant eight miles east of Georgetown Idaho. The project aims to create permanent jobs for about 300 and add at least two million dollars annually to Southeast Idaho payroll. The facility will run a 35 000 kilowatt furnace and produce high analysis calcium metaphosphate by October 1958. Around 300 officials citizens and business leaders attended as Jacobsen Construction Co of Salt Lake City agreed to build the plant with ore from eight miles northeast of Georgetown.

Opening day brought record numbers of anglers to local streams under clear skies as Blackfoot river rose after a snowmelt driven runoff. Bob Stoddard landed a pounder, Henry Donat a 7% pounder, several five pound trout were noted by Officer Twitchell who counted 231 cars along the lower Blackfoot.
