A field girl from Caribou County was crowned Miss Caribou County during a colorful beauty and talent pageant at Soda Springs High School. The winner will choose a college, with Brig University mentioned, and advances to the America Pageant in Atlanta if she wins the state title. Runner up Ann from Soda Springs and Carolyne Whitworth from Grace are noted for their own recognitions.

Five Finalists Named in Bancroft Pageant Sponsors Reveal

Edith Janice Redford received a token of appreciation from the Lions clubs as sponsorships cover finalist prizes. Cash awards totaled 2500 for first runner up and 15 dollars for second runner up and Miss Congeniality. Finalists answered paired questions on defense spending and housewife careers.

University researchers seek help in potato leaf roll study

Dr Jim Guthrie and Guy W. Bishop of the University of Idaho experiment station will be in Canbon County June 17 to study vectors of potato leaf roll. They focus on aphids on peach and apricot trees and ask locals with such trees near hotels to contact the county agent and report tree locations and ownership. This aids the control project for potato leaf roll.

Bob Stoddard of Conds won the Grace Big Trout Award in a contest on opening day. His fish weighed 8 pounds and was caught on the Blackfoot River. Weigh-ins occurred at Peterson's Food Market and Lee's Quality Foods with Taylor's Spudnut Shop hosting Sundays and holidays.

Over 100 Attend Soda Springs New Golf Course Inspection

A crowd of more than a hundred gathered at Soda Springs to view the 80 acre golf course underway with a water line trench in progress. Wheat quota vote polling places announced in local area

Local area announces polling places for the June 20 wheat quota referendum. Myron Isle of the Caribou County ASC sets eligibility for voters with farm wheat shares. If quotas pass two-thirds yes, penalties apply. if more than one third oppose, support stays at 80 percent of parity. A fatal accident north of Soda Springs involved Ute Whitesides Layton and Dayle Gray with details of the crash.

Eight Year Old Escapes Injury In Street Accident

Eight year old Mary Beth Balls of Soda Springs escaped injury when she ran from in front of a parked truck into the path of a car driven by Gerald R. Weimer Grace. Skid marks showed for 18 feet the left front of the car struck her tossing her about 12 feet. Doren Deaton nearby tried to catch her but missed. Weimer cited for failure to report an accident by Sheriff Ralph Marriott.
