Carey Times Names Marjorie Patton Publisher and Son Editor

Mrs. Marjorie E Patton purchases the Carey Times and names her son Michael as editor. Patton, born in Detroit, previously led Patton Engineering and Manufacturing Company as treasurer and later president after her husband’s death. Michael, a senior at Rawlins Green State University, studies journalism and plans to complete a BA while working. Leon F Davenport continues as advisor.

Shuffleboard Tournament Highlights across Canton and Springfield

The annual Canton shuffleboard tourney occurred Sept 10 at Riverside Park with amateur and expert divisions. Dorcas Donelson won the expert title. Harold Donelson placed third. Carey club attendees included Mr and Mrs Denver Donelson and Harold Donelson. Springfield hosted a Sept 17 18 event at Reid Park with Carey players present. Local weekly tours produced top brackets with Robert Smith Lee Yentzer and Harold Shiler among winners. A Tuesday sept 38 Weimer roast is planned. Students 8 through 12 and guests invited to a Sept 38 dance at Waterworks Park with Lima teen combo. admission 50 cents.

Western Style Square Dance Benefit for Wyandot County School

Wyandot County Square Dancers sponsor a Western Style square dance to aid Wyandot County Retarded Children School. The event is at St Peters Parish Upper Sandusky on Sunday Nov 7 from 1 to 5 pm with Lima and Toledo area callers donating their time. Retreat Planned by Women Society for Tuesday Evening

Carey PTA Plans Open Meeting With School Officials

William Ramsey superintendent of the Penta County Vocational and Technical Schools Perrysburg and Melvin Fleckner school clerk headline the first Carey PTA meeting Monday evening at Carey Grade School gym. They will discuss the vocational school system and its philosophy and the potential adaptation to Wayne County needs. The PTA aims to invite local business professionals and industrial leaders to participate.

Motorist Injured in Mishap North of Town

A one car accident on Wyandot 99 a half mile north of Care at 1007 pm Monday left Thomas E. Racheter 25 of Sycamore with contusions and abrasions. His 1958 Chevrolet was a total loss after the car skidded and struck a telephone pole. He was cited for speeding by Wyandot County Sheriff's Department.

Local Telephone Subscribers To Benefit By Reduction

Local telephone subscribers will save as the 0 percent telephone excise tax is reduced and finally removed. Dennis Yates, Northern Ohio Telephone Company local manager, says savings exceed 1 million dollars in 1966 and over 15 million in 1969 when the tax is fully eliminated. He notes the money will likely be reinvested into the economy, boosting business and growth.
