Improvements near the Col Crawford building clear the old brick plant pit and prep a new children's playground as a soft ball diamond. A parking lot east of the high school for about 16 autos is planned, with several bus drivers newly hired and certified after health exams.
Carl E. Turnbell of E Findlay street Carey earned a place on Marietta College summer term Dean's List. Dr. W Ray Irvine dean announced the record shows 173 students made the list, with 8 percent more men than women and a 10 percent rise from spring semester.
Indictments by the Hancock County grand jury include Calvin Platt alias Calvin Platte Carey for breaking and entering the Howell Hardware Arcadia and Linus L. Krom for breaking and entering the Howell Hardware Arcadia school and the Cletus Gabel service station Arcadia on April 4 and related charges.
A revival begins at the Church of God on 375 Frederick Street with Rev. Vortis Dyers from Carruthers in charge. Evening services start at 7:00 and run daily with all welcome to attend.
A Cub Scout meeting will be held Friday at 4 o clock in the municipal building. All Dens are urged to attend.
Last Thursday's Wyandot county fair drew 6 702 paid admissions and featured record horse and Belgian team showings. 4-H livestock sales brought in 10 657 20 dollars with champion Angus steer selling for 44 25 per cwt and top Hereford at 41 75 per cwt. Over 1 000 chest X-rays were taken at the fair by a mobile unit, with follow up reports to be issued by the health office.
The Rev. Valentine Fleckenstein Co PP S is named pastor of St. Peter Parish Alvada succeeding the late Rev. Hubert Seiferle C PP S. Msgr. R I Kinnane approved the appointment which takes effect September 29. Fleckenstein ordained May 14 1931 and has 4 years teaching at the Precious Blood minor seminary in Canton Ohio and since 1934 served as a missionary giving retreats and missions.
The Carey Times announces a temporary inability to publish on the usual avenue for the next several weeks. Readers are asked to submit briefer copy to ease production.
The Carey Band Mothers will hold a food and bake sale Saturday September 25 at 9 00 a m in Dible s plumbing shop. Members please bring food between 9 00 and 10 00 o clock.
The Carey Blue Devils defeated Paulding High 21 to 2 in the home opener before about 1500 fans. Carey built a 20-0 halftime lead with a series of rushing touchdowns by Berardinelli and Nye, then added a 20-yard pass to Strahm for another score before Paulding's safety in the final period. The Blue Devils host Mt Gilead under lights next Friday in the first league tilt.
Toby a 6 year old saddle horse owned by Mrs Kenneth Strauch of Bucyrus and Carey took first in the western pleasure class at Crawford county centennial fair on Saturday. Mrs Strauch's 13 year old daughter Jo Ann will show the horse Saturday at Columbus and Sunday at Spies.
Mrs Victor Dunn announces the opening of a kindergarten starting Monday October 4 at 1 PM. The program runs Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 o'clock each day. Children should bring a tablet pencil and a box of crayons.
Mr and Mrs L M Remslinger of 127 Toledo street will mark their 58th wedding anniversary next Saturday September 25 with an 8 45 mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church. At 6 PM their children and grandchildren host a dinner at the Pilgrim House. The date also honors Mr Remlinger s birthday.
Carey Kiwanis met in regular session on Monday September 20 at Gibbins restaurant. The Standard Oil companys color film Let’s Explore Ohio was shown by a company representative. The club aims to work on the shelter house next morning and evening with sufficient material for all. If changes occur members will be notified by post card or phone.

Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge No 656 will convene Tuesday at 8 o'clock in the I C O F hall. The first Mid State League meeting was held at the Harding Hotel in Marion on Tuesday evening September 14. Carey High School athletic committee members attended and backed advanced ticket sales for visiting schools, with regular prices for nonparticipants. Carey faces Marion St. Marys at Harding Stadium on October 2, with Red Bird’s Musical Majorettes performing. advance tickets are 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for students, while all admissions for the St Marys game are 1.00.
Ohio issued bonus checks totaling about 140 million dollars to more than 455 thousand veterans and next of kin in 88 counties from April 28 to August 31 1948. Director Chester W Goble of the World War II Compensation Fund detailed county by county payments and noted 148 393 August claims totaling 45 467 141 81 were paid vs 290 996 claims worth 93 865 203 31 earlier. Wyandot County reported 1010 claims filed equaling 308 442 39.

Robert Strahm and Robert Hayman, both Findlay college graduates last June, have accepted coaching positions at Pandora high school and Eden Township high school respectively. Strahm is son of Elmer Strahm of Dow Street, Hayman is son of Hugh Hayman of Brown Avenue.
The Carey Lions Club will stage a two even ing home talent show titled Fun for You on September 30 and October 1 at the school auditorium. About 75 performers from the community will impersonate famous radio personalities with Ralph T. Shantz as Hearry Ven Zell and Harry E. Myers as Tom Breneman. A Moose Women sponsored popularity contest and a 2 to 6 age group for children accompany the event, prizes awarded October 1. Miss Ann Shira will be pianist for both shows, with 26 chorus girls from local high schools. Mrs. Hazel Kennedy arrived to direct and promote the fundraiser for the clubs ceiling projector project.
Questionnaires mailed to Seneca county registrants prepare for the first draft. Edward Schultz, county draft board clerk, says eleven men aged 25 are to be called for preinduction examination in October with about five projected for service in the November draft. The selection will use age rather than numbers, with oldest non father non veteran registrants favored. The county registered 298 on Wednesday and 285 on Thursday across Tiffin and neighboring towns.
In Findlay hospital Wednesday at 4 30 am a 6 pound 5 ounce daughter named Joan arrives for Mr and Mrs Glenn Walborn. Mrs Walborn formerly Donna Beucher of Findlay. A son William 344 years old to Elizabeth Walborn and family. An 8 pound daughter Janis Kay born September 14 to Charles Horn Jr and Donna Roof. Janis Kay has sisters Mary Lou and Judy. A 60 pound son born Wednesday 5 am to Mr and Mrs William Taft near Carey. A 9 pound son Anthony Louis born Wednesday evening September 8 in Mercy hospital Tiffin to Mr and Mrs Woodrow Orlans.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Monday evening September 27. The social committee includes Mrs Everette McKee, chairwoman, Mrs William Weaver, Mrs A H Doenoissa, Mrs Robert Frederick, Mrs Harry Shull, Mrs Samuel Gunther, Mrs Linus Myers, Mrs R J Lemons, Mrs Hilda Sctria, Mrs George Remlinger, and Wika Wt ennette.
The Women's Benefit Association will meet Friday evening at 8 15 o'clock at the Moose hall. A potluck supper will follow the meeting.
Mrs Fredrick Rife will host the J T club gathering Thursday afternoon September 30 at her residence ten miles northwest of Carey.
