Mexican tomato picker confesses to Mott farm slaying

Pedro Perez a 51 year old Mexican tomato picker on the Robert Mott farm near Carey reportedly confessed Sunday evening to killing Salvador Navas 32. The crime occurred Saturday about 2 45 am on the Mott farm. Perez held in Wyandot jail. Autopsy set after Navas died of a penetrating wound to the aorta. Witnesses included Angel Romas Santiago Bocanegra and his son Natividad. Navas a Texas resident born 1923 had applied for citizenship five months earlier.

Donelsons to Tour Europe in Luxury Liners

Mr and Mrs A E Donelson depart Carey on Sunday October 2 for New York City and board the Queen Mary on October 5 for a five week tour of Europe. The itinerary includes England Holland Belgium Luxembourg Germany Switzerland Liechtenstein Austria Italy Monaco and France with returns on the Queen Elizabeth docking in New York City November 9.

Attic Auction Plans Advance For Local Clubs

Carey Soroptimist Club members met with Mel Melvin Hotelling to finalize arrangements for an attic auction Saturday at 1 PM in Water Works Park pavilion. Donations are being collected today and tomorrow with several items offered. Auctioneer Charles Laudenslager will be assisted by Richard Wenzinger and others. Proceeds support youth programs of the Soroptimist and Kiwanis Clubs.

Carey Golfers Qualify For Tourney at Fairview Course

Twenty four golfers competed in the opening of Carey’s first annual Handicap Golf tournament at Fairview near Findlay. Qualifiers for match play include Orville Simons C A Yeoman Bil Montag ue and Bob Donelson in the Championship flight Don Traxler John O Flaherty Frank Frederick and Daryl Newman in the First flight John Maulbhol Dr H K Van Buren Ronnie Van Buren Jack Green and Frank Heck as alternates. Participants are asked to return to Farview Golf Course at 830 am Sunday to select opponents and continue the tourney.

Visit to Ohio Masonic Home yields deer and peacocks

Sunday trip to the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, dubbed the home on the hill, included a picnic, a tour of the buildings and animal viewing. The Carey resident Eva Hendricks, age 79, was highlighted. American Legion Contributes 500 to Athletic Field Fence Fund

The American Legion Earl Green Post No 344 gave 500 to the Carey Boosters Club for the new athletic field fence. The drive began Sept 12 to raise the remaining 2,820 balance, with the Legion earning the funds at a recent homecoming. The fence cost 4,734 with 1,914 already contributed last fall.

Banks Buy Steers For Annual Beef Barbecue On Sept 29

Wyandot county banks coordinated purchase of two Junior Farr steers for a county wide beef barbecue set for Thursday evening September 29 at 6 30 in the Wyandot county fair grounds dining hall. The event honors 4 H clubs FFA and FHA members aiding the fair's success with meals served by sponsoring banks staff and area volunteers. School buses will transport youths to the barbecue with beef sandwiches potato salad baked beans and refreshments on the menu.

Return From West Coast Visit

Mr and Mrs R W Hunter of west of Carey returned Sunday from a two week trip to Los Angeles visiting Mr and Mrs Harry Hale. They stopped in Chicago to see the Ponorama and stayed with Mr and Mrs Monroe Flicker in Omaha Nebraska. On the return they spent a day in Las Vegas Nevada and saw several sights in the West.

Members met Friday evening at Carey Memorial Park for an exciting shuffleboard tournament. Arch Donelson and Henry Pierada beat Harold Shiley and De Bame in the finals after two extra frames. Consolation winners were Pearl Donelson and Dr Van Buren 82 79 over Mary Pieracin and Irma Smith.

Fire department answers two early morning calls

The Carey fire department answered two calls last week. At 12 38 a.m. Saturday they went to Sunyside Road where a car owned by Alice Craft burned. The car valued at 339 dollars was a total loss. At 2 a.m. Saturday they fought a trash pile fire at the Carey Farm Bureau with no damage reported.

Blue Devils Open Home Season Against Huron at Memorial Park Field

Carey Blue Devils host Huron Friday night at Memorial Park for their first home game on the new field. Oak Harbor defeated Carey 20 6 in the opener with Roszman and Miller scoring for Carey while Oak Harbor’s Baldwin added two extra points. Huron comes in undefeated after a 27 0 Ron upset of Avon Lake last week.
