Immigrant Emil Deckler Arrives in New York on Hanca Steamer
Emil Deckler of Salzburg Germany arrived in New York on the steamer Hanca, sailing August 730 and landing September 9 after crowding delays. He stayed with his aunt Mrs. Charles Fox near town and needed proof of support before entry. Deckler, a farmer son of a German farm owner, brought paper marks now valueless, some exhibited at the Times office. Four Sulecburg residents also came on the same steamer, including Mrs. Christ Schmidtz’s brother and niece from Chicago.
