The Franciscan Fathers of Our Lady of Consolation parish announce a two year high school Institute of Christianity. Classes meet Wednesday evenings October to May with Lenten sessions and six credits per course. Diploma requires twenty four credits and is awarded at the yearly baccalaureate service.
The 112th Wyandot County Fair began smoothly with good Tuesday weather before rain and wind later reduced gate receipts to 15,920 for the week, down from 17,589 in 1962 and 16,884 in 1961. Judging for open class horses and crops started at 9:30 am, with market hogs and lambs shown, and winners noted across cattle, dairy, and 4-H divisions.
Carey Blue Devils beat Liberty-Benton 60 on its home field in the final quarter Friday night. Key plays included a 60-yard drive capped by a 1-yard plunge by Roger Dean and 80-yard rushing efforts from Russ Chester and Gary Rutter. Liberty-Benton penalties and Carey errors shaped the game with missed Carey passes and a fumble by Liberty-Benton near midfield. Carey hosts North Baltimore next Friday at home.
The seminary announces updated schedules for public enrollment. Father Carroll Downs leads a three credit English Composition course Mondays at 7 pm. Other offerings include Principles and Problems of Secondary Education with Father Warren Welsh and General Sociology with Father Campion Prendergast. Contact the Dean before Sunday to enroll for credit. auditing is allowed.
Mrs. Charles Hall hosted 18 members and one guest of the Carey Garden Club as officers for the new term began October 1 were installed by Mrs. William Yingling Jr. New president Mrs. Wilford Shuman received a corsage. others named were vice president Mrs. Elbert Tewell and secretary Mrs. Paul Heck. treasurer Mrs. Clarence C. Thome was absent. Mrs. James Lindsay demonstrated plant propagation. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Heck. The October 21 meeting will be with Mrs. Earl Robison.
Carey Police Chief Vincent R. Jacob will address the Jaycee Ettes Babysitting Clinic at 7:15 PM at the Ohio Fuel Gas office. The session is the second of an eight week course. late arrivals may still join, but new enrollments are closed after tonight.
Postmaster and Mrs. J A Schira attended an appreciation dinner honoring U S Senator Stephen M Young at the Sheraton Cleveland Hotel. Former President Harry S Truman was principal speaker, introduced by Congressman Michael J Kirwan. Remarks were offered by Senator Warren Magnuson and DNC Chairman John Bailey and Anthony J Celebrezze, SE&HWE secretary.
Richard Earl Buckingham SR 661-5332 listed with Co 362 USNTC RTC Great Lakes Illinois as the initial address. The entry places Buckingham in a naval or military training context at the Great Lakes facility.
Harris Oil Co drilled a 2000 foot well on the Wyandot County Home farm near U S 23. No oil or gas pressure found. well shot with acid and plugged to 1300 feet. County commissioners report a meeting with Harris representative who says Lee drilling may proceed on the farm.
The board announces progress on the high school remodeling with five new classrooms formed from existing spaces, steel installed in the gym, and plans for a second floor and new library and study hall. Delivery of steel occurred earlier in the week as walls rise. Elementary work shows first and second floors poured with walls up for a third floor and a multi purpose room ready for roofing.
The Carey Volunteer Fire Department organizes a training class and seeks volunteers 21 and older. Members meet twice monthly to study firefighting, care for equipment, and attend social events including the Northwestern Ohio Firemen's Convention. Volunteers are paid a minimum of 3 dollars per call up to one hour and 2 dollars for each additional hour. Contact Chief Orion Wilgus to join.
Carey public schools run a clothes drive for Goodwill Industries this week ending Friday. Students bring usable or repairable clothing in Goodwill bags to school Friday morning for pickup by Goodwill drivers at 8:15 a.m. Bags stay outside the buildings. Call Mrs. John Walters at 314 Frederick Street, 396-4491, for large items.
Carey Shuffleboard Club members attended a two day singles event at Springfield. Participating pairs included Mr and Mrs Denver Donelson, Harold Shiley, Robert Smith, Lee Yentzer, Lloyd Long, Reed Steen, and Cy Williams. Lloyd and Elsie Long won the Husband and Wife tournament defeating Donald and Marcie Donelson. Bob and Irma Smith won the consolation over Karl and Mary Kimmel.

Trap shoot event at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Texas Township Conservation Club invites the public to attend. Local enthusiasts gather for the turkey shoot as a community activity.
The Carey PTA executive board met to plan the 1963 64 year and decide how many meetings to schedule. The first meeting is next Monday at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium with officers listed and a call for strong parent support.
The Junior Fair Livestock Sale capped the Wyandot County Fair 4 H events Saturday afternoon with a total of $34 445 45 raised. Highlights include champion market hog Ronald Walters selling to WMRN Radio at 65 per hundred and other champions such as David Wolfe and Gary Bennett earning top bids from U S Commission Co Bowen Implement Co Wyandot Tractor Sales and Wharton Elevator among others.
Fabio Franco, father of a Findlay, Ohio student, is among 91 Cuban refugees who were granted political asylum by Mexico after a five day Caribbean voyage aboard a Castro government vessel. He had been separated from his wife and children for over a year while they lived in Findlay.
A Friday night fish fry at the American Legion welcomes all after the game with a friendly reception and community gathering.
The Wyandot County Chapter of the American Red Cross collects 71 pints of blood at First Methodist Church on Thursday with a mobile unit. Donors include Donald Keller and Robert Jacob reaching 2 gallon gifts, and many others listed. Volunteers and staff from doctors to registrars supported the effort amid lower turnout due to a county fair.
William Lindsay of Strautzenberger Business College Toledo visits his parents Mr and Mrs James Lindsay Tina and Danny near Carey during freshman registration. Dan Lafontaine son of Lloyd Lafontaine Alvada starts veterinary medicine at Ohio State University Sept 30 and serves as rushing vice president of Phi Kappa Theta. his grandparents are Mr and Mrs Edward Wuebbe north of Carey.

Carey and Crawford township residents attended a Kiwanis program featuring Charles W. Wenner of Findlay discussing planning, platting, and zoning.
