Village council weighs two month utility billing plan

Councilman Windau proposed reading electric and water meters every two months and billing utilities on a bi monthly cycle to save money while acknowledging the risk of larger bills for residents. Carey Blue Devils dominated North Baltimore on their home field for a 20 to 0 win improving to 2 1. Gary Rutter scored most of the early points with 14 in the first quarter and Russ Chester added key runs. Charles Laudenslager connected with Mike Dasher for a 39 yard TD pass and Carey heads to Gibsonburg Friday for a 8 PM road test.

Indian Minister Guest of Area Churches

The Rev. P. V. Isaac a Methodist minister from Bombay will speak to Crawford and Wharton Methodist Churches Saturday evening at Wharton Church. A potluck supper starts at 6 30 with each family bringing a covered dish table service and sandwiches. He is part of the Overseas Pastors Training Program of the General Board of Missions. He and 15 other ministers from India and Asia arrived in 1963 and after Drew Theological School training were assigned to U S churches for six months. He will speak at morning services Sunday on Entering Into Life Crawford 9 Wharton 10.

Wisner Accepts Clerical X Ray Post at Children’s Hospital

Miss Gloria Wisner, a 1963 Carey High School graduate, accepts a clerk position in the X ray department at Children’s Hospital in Columbus and will begin duties Monday. She will stay with her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Gerald Husted and expects to reside at Timken Hall within weeks. Mrs Husted runs the hospital clinic laboratory and her husband heads hematology. They plan a new home in Walnut Heights and aim to move before November. Miss Wisner and Mrs Husted are daughters of Mr and Mrs J V Wisner.

Carey Shuffleboard Club Holds Tuesday Tournament

Three courts were in play Tuesday as the Carey Shuffleboard Club held its regular tournament. Harold Shiley won the top bracket by defeating Reed and Emma Steen. In the consolation, Lee Yentzer and Mary Shiley beat Bob and Erma Smith.

Church Benevolence Reaches 100 Percent Apportionment

Trinity Lutheran Church of New Iberia La has again paid 100 percent of its benevolence apportionment, the first in the Texas Louisiana Synod. In 1963 the amount was sent by September 10, four months before the deadline. Pastor Dr T Benton Peery, formerly of Christ Lutheran Church Corey, leads the benevolent effort.

Record deficit in 1956 pupil numbers nationwide

In 1956 the number of pupils in schools exceeded the nation’s rated capacity by 2,800,000, indicating a substantial shortfall between enrollment and available school space.

Wyandot Museum to Undergo Facelift Under Way

Wyandot County Museum will receive a face-lift after the Historical Society Board awarded the remodeling contract to Dale Kear of Wharton. Work starts after preliminary tasks. The society plans to attend the State Historical Society meeting November 9 in Canton. Otto Vent will present a brief review with colored slides of the McConnell home now housing the museum. A county fair auction yielded a profit of $91.80.

Corn crib fire on Baseline Road extinguished

A corn crib at the Howard Fredritz farm on Baseline Road north of Carey caught fire Tuesday afternoon. Carey Fire Department responded at 3 45 and extinguished the flames. The structure was in the New Riegel district with no damage estimate filed.

Clarence Drake in Critical Condition After One Car Crash

Clarence Drake aged 31 of route 1 Alvada remains in critical condition at Mt. Carmel Hospital Columbus after a Sept. 9 one car crash west of Columbus. He suffered skull fracture concussion three broken ribs punctured lung and multiple lacerations. He was alone and thrown from his 1956 Mercury station wagon after missing a curve. He had just signed for a two week leave to visit his mother Mrs Fern Drake of Poplar Bluff Missouri. Mrs Drake has been with him most of the time as their three children stay with her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Decker of Arlington.
