Carey schools plan the third annual Commercial Exhibit and Carnival at the high school on Tuesday evening October 8. Merchants will show merchandise and contribute items for the Country Store to raise funds, with a student helper crew and a girls minstrel show as the highlight.
Mrs Ora Kidwell saw smoke from the second story of J W Sopher’s home on E Brown Ave. Frederick Sopher and Mrs Sopher were away in Findlay. Firefighters limited the blaze to a pair of pants in a chair. matches in the pocket ignited the cloth and caused smoldering.
The First National Bank of Carey reports many creditors have not collected their final dividend checks. All claimants will receive their checks if they bring their receiver's certificates to the bank promptly, as uncalled checks will soon be returned to Washington D C.
Mrs Lawrence Bland chairs the social committee for the American Legion Auxiliary meeting next Monday evening. Members include Mrs W H Snyder Mrs G C Snyder and Mrs J J Kohmann. First meeting of the season with officers to be elected and good attendance urged.
Carey friends note the marriage of Dick Harris son of Mr and Mrs F G Harris Toledo formerly Carey and Miss Helen Carpenter of Zanesville. The ceremony took place last April while they were students at Ohio University Athens. The couple now reside in Springfield where Mr Harris runs a filling station.
Carey Chapter No 159 R A M holds a special meeting Thursday evening September 26 with work in the most excellent master degree to be conferred by McCutchen chapter of Upper Sandusky Supper served at 6:00 o clock All members urged to attend.
The Smokey Mountain Boys, radio stars, are booked to play at the Village Tavern for three nights Saturday Sunday and Wednesday from 8 pm to 12 midnight.
The Carey Big Four Railroad Employees Booster Club will meet at the high school on Tuesday evening September 24. Dinner, 50 cents per plate, served to 7:00 p.m. by the high school class. Reservations to R. B. Hamler. After dinner an entertainment program by Big Four employees from various railroad points.
Mrs Earl Bogen of Columbus died at her mother Mrs Franklin Kinsinger’s home on S Patterson Street after a lingering illness. Private funeral services will be held at the Kinsinger residence with Rev A C Rainsberger officiating. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery. Surviving: husband Earl Bogen, a daughter Alice Eleanor, mother Mrs Martha Kinsinger, sisters Mrs Lawrence Smith Miss Alice and Miss Lucille Kinsinger, brother Alton Kinsinger. The family moved to Carey 19 years ago. she was born December 24, 1905. She was 30. She attended Carey High School class of 1925 and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church.
Dorothy Dargin Diehn, 36, died August 30 in Phoenix Arizona. Her death followed tuberculosis. She was born in Sandusky City and long resided in Springfield with ties to Carey. Survived by husband Robert Carter Harold Carter sister Margaret Dargin Springfield and brother Theodore Dargin Piqua. Granddaughter of the late Harris couple of this place. Her parents and grandmother Harris had died in the preceding two years.
The Ohio annual conference of the Methodist church begins in Columbus next Wednesday, the largest in Methodism with over 600 ministers. The 1926 session focuses on electing delegates to the May general conference in Columbus, which governs the church. Rev. A C Rainsberger, pastor of Carey, will depart for Columbus Tuesday evening and may not return next year.
The Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation parish announces an informal dance for Catholic youth from the parish and nearby communities. Doc Smith and his orchestra from Tiffin had been engaged to provide music for the event.
Government thermometer in Upper Sandusky showed 89 degrees at noon on Wednesday as temperatures climbed from 81 degrees the day before.

At a chapel program the class instrumental instruction program was announced. Musicians demonstrated their instruments with Norman Huffman on cornet Carolyn Sopher on clarinet Francis Peirce on flute Rita Brown on saxophone and Harold Krout performing.
Carey meets North Baltimore this Saturday at 2 00 after school dismissal for the fair. North Baltimore trounced by Bowling Green last week, but fans recall a notable game here two years ago and expect a renewal of the rivalry. This is Carey's only Saturday game this season with six straight road weekends before hosting Crestline on November 1 and Upper Sandusky on Armistice Day November 11.
Last Tuesday evening the Carey high student body held the first social of the year in the gym under the student council. Each class performed for five or ten minutes before freshmen and new teachers were welcomed in an unusual and delightful manner.
Earl Harris describes surviving the 1935 Florida hurricane that battered Camp Foster Yukon a severe storm with 150 mile an hour winds. He aided hospital patients and helped secure shelters as the camp buildings collapsed around him in a firsthand account of the disaster.
Angeline A Shane born August 5 1879 near Carey died at 56 after 10 weeks bedfast carcinoma. She married Lewis Kimmel December 20 1905. survived by daughter Corinne sister Mrs John Stalter brothers Alec and Ernest Shane. Funeral at Beech Grove United Brethren Church with Rev J W Shock and Rev Cora Tester. burial Zion Bloom Cemetery south of Vanlue.

Members of the Hickle family gathered for the 10th annual reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Tong on West Street. Twenty six relatives shared a noon basket dinner and ice cream in the afternoon. The 1936 reunion is planned for the second Sunday in August at Republic.
Crawford chapter 168 O E S holds regular meeting at 200 o clock Friday evening with a social session. Mrs A E Constien chairs the entertaining committee. In the afternoon the Past Worthy Matrons Association entertains the chapter officers and 1935 initiates.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet for its monthly social at Mrs. J. A. McDaniel’s home on West Findlay Street this Thursday evening. Hostesses include Mrs. Edward Gibbs and Mrs. L. L. Lanning assisting.
Kiwanis members heard engineer C L Finkbinder describe a sewer plan for Carey with a total cost of 164000. Bond funds of 89000 would come from voters in November and 75000 from a federal grant. Taxes would rise 22 5 mills over 25 years, with service charges of 3 to 3 50 annually. Eighty seven thousand five hundred for labor and 65000 for materials, employing 175 men for a year.
James A Fehnel died at his Wharton area home Saturday afternoon from complications after a year of illness. Born January 11 1857 in Pennsylvania he was 78. He married Katherine Kohl in 1882 she died years ago. Surviving children and grandchildren include Garmen Harrison Lucetta Brown and Nellie Searfoss with 10 grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral Tuesday at 230 at Wharton Church of God with Rev R P Smith officiating. Burial in Wharton cemetery.
Lawrence Plott of Carey died Friday at 7 30 am at Findlay Home and Hospital after ten days with peritonitis and pneumonia. Funeral was held Monday at his residence with Rev. N W Sager officiating. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery. He was born June 9 1886 four miles south of Carey to Napoleon Bonaparte and Mary Etta Nye Plott. He married Hettie Wentz in 1904, producing one child Virgie, then Alice Briggs in 1908 producing nine children. Pallbearers: Harold Plott, Chester Plott, Roy Plott, Curtis Plott, Clarence Crist, Earl Gault.
Mrs. R. P. Purnell of Denver and her husband recently completed an extensive wedding trip through the West visiting relatives in Fosteria and Carey and ending back in Denver where they reside. The couple spent the latter part of the journey touring national parks.
There will be another dance in the C. K. of O. hall next Tuesday evening September 24. Everybody invited.
