Russ Martin earned the win as Porcelain built a 6-0 comeback and tied the game, then pulled ahead in the fifth. Newcomer Rettig Stoll Higgin s and McGinnis contributed multiple hits across the tournament as Porcelain finished 5-1 in the event.

The Carey Board of Education invited the Vanlue Board of Education to a special meeting at Carey School on September 16 to discuss the proposed annexation of Vanlue into Carey. At 2 58 pm on September 14 on W Findlay Street near Muncie Street two late model cars were totalled. Thomas Putnam of 303 N Vance Street stated he lost control while westbound, skidded 166 feet, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck Burton Higginbotham of 425 W Findlay Street driving a 1967 Chevrolet. Rubber skid marks measured 260 feet. Putnam was cited to Mayors Court for reckless operation.

Memorial honors 845 Church of God of Prophecy congregations
The Church of God of Prophecy on Brown Avenue received special honor at the Fields of the Wood memorial near Murphy North Carolina during the 63rd Annual General Assembly in Cleveland Tennessee September 10 16. Pastor Verda Camink accepted a 2x6x12 marble stone on a giant honor roll for her church as part of the milestone with 845 congregations honored. The assembly is expected to draw about 13000 delegates from all fifty states and foreign countries. The organization began at Holiness Church Camp Creek June 13 1903 and now has over 100000 members with a Pentecostal emphasis and ecumenical goals. Pastor Camink plans to return home early next week.

Three Injured When Cars Collide Sunday
Three people were injured in a two car crash at 6 55 pm Sunday September 15 at the junction of state routes 23 and 15, 27 miles south of the Hancock County line. Roger M Parks 18 of Carey pulled onto the west berm and passed two stopped vehicles, colliding with Kenneth H Cathel 52 of Columbus southeast bound on route 15. Cathel and his wife were admitted to Wyandot Memorial Hospital with fractured ribs and possible other injuries. Parks was treated for abrasions and possible chest injuries.

Sherman Heck Dies Suddenly at 50 in Carey Legion Hall
Sherman D. Heck 50 of Findlay Street died at 9 45 p.m. Saturday September 14 1968 in the Carey American Legion Hall from a heart attack. He was born July 22 1818 in C and was a Lumber Company employee. Survived by his stepmother Mrs Zella Heck Carey and multiple relatives. Services were held September 17 at 4 p.m. at Bristol Funeral Home with burial at Spring Grove Cemetery. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion VFW and Eagles.
