Soil fertility drive to test Carey soils Friday

The traveling soil laboratory will visit Carey on Friday September 18 from 1:00 p m to 6:00 p m. Farmers can have soils tested and learn from experts how to use fertilizers and lime to boost crop profits per acre. The First National Bank of Carey urges all farmers to attend.

Evangelical Missionary Society Meeting At Church

Mrs C R Tate presided over the Home and Foreign Missionary society gathering at the Evangelical church. Mrs Henry Daymon explained a chapter from the year’s text and Mrs Hira Jacobs read a leaflet Amanda Jane. Mrs Cora Hart offered the closing prayer. Mrs A G Tozer will lead the October meeting.

Mrs. Charles Bowers of Sunbury sold her Muncie Street property occupied by Willis Wonder to Urban Wangler. The 80 acre Leo Gase farm five miles north of town was bought by Will Jaqueth of Findlay. Agricultural Department At Local High School Expands

The agricultural department at the local high school reports 27 boys enrolled for the coming year. Classes mix Freshman-Sophomore and Junior-Senior groups, with about three fourths in agriculture 1 and 2. The program began Tuesday, and visitors and parents are invited to visit the department during the year.

Death of Samuel D. Myers at age 84 in Carey Ohio

Samuel D. Myers died at 84 after a long illness. He was born November 27, 1840 in Royalton Fairfield county and lived in Carey since 1843. Survived by widow Jennie Moore, daughters Mrs S B Beitler and Miss Mattie, a foster daughter, a brother James A. Myers, three grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services are set at 2:00 PM from his Findlay Street home with Rev. E. E. Cole and the Odd Fellows in charge. burial in Spring Grove cemetery. He was active in the Methodist church, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, and Pythian Sisters. The Times asks readers to join a booster campaign offering a Chrysler Touring Car and cash prizes for subscription renewals and new subscriptions within a 15-mile radius.

Infant Helen Fruth Dies Near Alvada

Eight month old Helen Etha Fruth daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Fruth died Wednesday evening from bowel trouble. She lived a mile west of Alvada. Funeral is planned for Friday afternoon but arrangements were incomplete at press time.

Parochial School Opens With Surging Enrollment

The parochial school opened last week and reports enrollment about 20 higher than last year. Sister M Alphonso leads the first room with 12 boys and 17 girls in 1st grade, Sister M Dorothy heads 2nd grade, and so on through 8th grade with mixed boys and girls. Several graduates move on to Toledo and Marion high schools, and 29 new pupils entered the first grade.

Reverend Herbert to Leave Champlain Grace English Lutheran

Rev. F. B. Herbert of Grace English Lutheran church in Champaign will preach a farewell sermon Sunday at 10 30. He leaves for Lafayette Indiana to lead Holy Trinity English Lutheran and Purdue University ties. Under his 12 years here the congregation grew from 20 to 140 and a new church on Springfield Avenue was dedicated in 1919. He previously led the Lutheran church in Champlain and has been active with students. The church awaits a successor.

Mexican worker Abundio Mata killed crossing railway track

Abundio Mata a 21 year old Mexican, was struck and killed by an engine on the Hocking Valles railroad after stopping work with an extra gang. The coroner ruled accidental death. His father Jesus Mata of Mexico requested burial here.
