Carey corporation Democrats held a Friday caucus to nominate candidates for village offices to be elected in November. Over 160 votes were cast with a lively contest for mayor and marshal. The ticket includes Mayor A E Constie, Marshal Ed Gibbs, Treasurer M A Washburn, Clerk J J Brandt, Constable F O Cane, Assessor E M Reinhart, and other boards and committees.
George Ash will transition from commissioner elect to commissioner on the fifth of the month. He will serve a two year term succeeding H F Stalter whose term ends. Ash has prior service of one year in the office. The board will include M M Hollinshead J W Lowery and George Agh.
The City Council met in regular session Monday night with members Felker Stahl Snyder and others present. Bills for two weeks were approved including salaries for John Lockrider acting marshal Michael Gottfried Carl Carr and Loren Stahl plus expenses for W.W. trustees and street work. The council discussed water supply and considered installing an air lift at the plant, postponed for one week.
The pony Sir General owned by C. H. Long of Circleville wowed viewers last week with skill beyond a horse’s. He obeyed commands, fetched sums from a cash register and spelled letters and figures from cards around the stage. The show drew small crowds, despite Mr Long noting larger crowds in bigger towns.

Nevada Enterprise reports a Labor Day baseball tournament at that place with Sycamore defeating Morral 8 to 3 in the forenoon. Afternoon games saw Tiffin beat Forest 7 to 1, then Sycamore defeat Tiffin 8 to 3. Grifith won a long throw contest. Traxler won the base running contest. Laura Stevens fountain dedication planned October 3 at Upper Sandusky with speakers including Senator Elza Carter and Mayor John Carey. Real estate transfers include two Carey lots and Ridge township acreage. Custody dispute over Flossie Barth resolved in favor of grandparents. John McGinnis sues to cancel a deed in Upper Sandusky. Mrs. Rawson H. Tyler settles with Hocking Valley Railway Co. for 450 dollars. County surveyor Beausey sells Brooks ditch segments. Stief Bros tiles and Donnersbach stone wall contract noted.
The Crawford Township caucus named Trustees Brayton Davis and Kear, Clerk A Kear, Treasurer W E Hall, Justice of Peace S B Gillette, Constables J C Burk and George Croker, Board of Education J H Phillips and John Slotterbeck, Ditch Commissioner C D Smith. Nominations were made at the township house last Saturday afternoon.
The annual W C T U meeting elected officers including President Mrs H R Felker and Cor Sec Mrs Margaret Dow. Chosen vice presidents represent various churches. delegates to the State Convention at Steubenville October 23 24 26 include Mrs Emma O'Brien and Mrs W S Harpster.

George Sherman, his son-in-law Fred Frisch, and Frisch’s young son were thrown from a buggy when a frightened horse broke a hold back strap near the Hocking Valley station. Sherman was bruised but recovering. others escaped serious harm. Dr Southward treated them.
Onion growers bustle to harvest and market a good crop as wagons pass through streets. Seed quality affected yields with five hundred bushels per acre in favorable plots while southern varieties yield smaller onions. Local acreage estimated around one hundred fifty with current prices at fifty cents per bushel. Weather has been favorable for harvest.
Mr and Mrs Hiram Smith and daughters attended the funeral in Portage for Rev J. Smith, pastor of the United Brethren church there. The death was unexpected. He and his twin brother, also a United Brethren pastor, were well known in this city for their striking resemblance.
The United Evangelical Conference of Ohio plans its annual gathering in Calla in the northeastern state. Rev Harp ster will attend and a lay member from here may also participate in the event.
The Indian team faced the Clippers last Monday with six players from Salamanca New York and five Senecas. One member hails from Onondaga County. Three are Missouri half breeds. First season on the road about two months. Managed by I C Figg of Illinois, who travels with his wife. They toured with their own outfit including a canvas enclosure grand stand and electric lights for a night game. They began the trip in a Pullman car but now ride in ordinary cars and stay at hotels. In town they were quartered at the Gals House.
The state fair drew record crowds surpassing last year's high marks with reports of up to fifty thousand visitors on Thursday. Officials note the event shifted to relying on newspaper publicity rather than posters and brochures, a strategy credited with boosting attendance.

The Anti-Saloon League held its annual rally on Sunday with Rev. Dr. Rutledge of Cleveland as a state speaker. He addressed congregations at M. E. church and United Brethren church and urged support for league goals. The group plans a county local option law as the next legislative step.
Owner Mr Hough of Toledo plans extensive repairs at the Galt House. The building will be repapered in modern style with rooms already papered, and offices lobby and reading rooms to receive elegant coverings. A new front to the fruit store room occupied by Mr Cardosas will be built by WWW Snyder.
The gold medal contest of the Woman's Christian Temperance Society Wyandot County will be held in Upper Sandusky late this month. Contestants include Florence Dow winner here, plus Clara Von Blon of Upper Sandusky Eva Vannetta of Sycamore Creston Sanger of Nevada and Chester Meek formerly of Upper Sandusky now in Bucyrus.
Rev. W. S. Harpster attended the funeral of his aunt Mrs. Judith Shoe maker at Mt. Cory on Monday.
