The August installation of Rev. E Luther Spaid as pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church marked his farewell sermon August 25 as he leaves for Carey Ohio to assume duties September 1. The ceremony, led by Rev. Oliver Baltzley and Rev. A A Hundley, reflected synod rules and featured earnest addresses on the pastorate and church unity.
The Wittenberg Synod of the Lutheran church will meet here about the middle of October. Thirty six will commence on Friday and continue until Tuesday. There will be about one hundred delegates present.
Carey home talent presented a comic opera style program at Snyder's Opera House last Friday with a running story and a large cast led by Miss Luella Z Drake. Highlights included overtures by Glen Stroup and Vincie Campbell and a piano solo by Ruth Ewing. The event supported the Y W C T U and the Athenian literary society, drawing praise for talent and potential despite some pacing critiques.

Mrs. McDowell and son Roland and granddaughter Inez Vanlue attended the Thomas reunion at Reeves Park on Wednesday August 28 with at least 250 people. Relatives came from other states including California. Thursday the Camp and Fisher reunion followed in Bigtick Township Camp Farm with a large crowd and a Findlay quartette provided entertainment. Mrs. McDowell links both reunions through her Camp and Thomas ancestry.
Clarence Culp and Ethel Angus were married at 4:30 am at the MFE Parsonage with Rev. JF Olive officiating. Culp is the son of Mr and Mrs S Culp of west of town and Angus is the daughter of Mr and Mrs A Angus of Carey. They honeymoon in Marion visiting a groom’s brother. The Times extends best wishes.
The Tong brothers Hosea Tong Jr Sherman Tong and Garfield Tong along with Logan Wohlga muth took advantage of excursion rates and traveled Saturday to Bliss in Northern Michigan to visit their uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Jerome Kaiser.
The August gathering of Bruce school district No 3 in Salem township drew more than 150 people including visiting friends. Officers were elected with William Bruce as president and H F Morehart as vice president. Next reunion set for early September 1908 at the same site with dinner served and plans for better seating.
Edward Campbell was thrown from a buggy last Thursday about a mile east of town after his horse was frightened by an automobile. His ankle sprained and disabled him for a few days, but he was able to go uptown on Monday and is expected to recover soon.
