School bus contracts authority cited in Ohio opinion
Columbus Aug 30 Attorney General Hugh Jenkins ruled that a board of education may contract with individuals to supply school bus drivers and transportation for pupils. Soldier Henry Lortz Receives Honorable Discharge

SGT McConnell and Mrs W R McConnell spent a week with the sergeant's parents in Bowling Green and visited Mrs McConnell's parents in Carey. He arrived from Italy August 19 and will report to Camp Atterbury Indiana September 23 after a Pacific bound ship was stopped en route. Mrs McConnell, a public school music instructor in Cardington, has a three week leave of absence.

Carey man in 99th Infantry Division helps topple German fortress
Gerald L. Stoll of Carey Ohio fought with Company I 3893rd Infantry Regiment in the 99th Infantry Division. He and his unit, nicknamed the Checkerboard division, played key roles in breaking Siegfried Line advancing with Hodges 1st Army then Rhine crossing and Ruhr Pocket cleanup before joining Patton's 3rd Army for the Danube push. In Wyandot county on Saturday August 18 the sheriff sold five tracts from the Emma Stief and H B Stief estates. Odd Fellows bought the 3 story 120 HE Findlay St building for 9700 with a 99 year lease on the third floor and second floor rental. Army Veteran Charles H Kloepfer Discharged at Atterbury
S/Sgt Charles H Kloepfer was discharged August 1 at Camp Atterbury after 4 years and 7 months in the U S Army. He participated in the African invasion with the armored infantry and served two years with military police in Sicily. Wheat Field Fire Destroys 10 Acres Near Carey
A 17 acre wheat stubble field on Floyd Herbert's farm six miles south of Carey burned 10 acres before extinguishment. Clover in the field was ruined. Wharton firefighters faced another blaze at the Tong home and arrived too late to save the field. Herbert thanks rescuers, especially the Wharton department.
