Stillberger Farm Sold To William I Moore

Mr and Mrs William I Moore of Bluffton bought the 14 acre Stillberger farm 2 miles south of Carey from Mrs William Stillberger. The Moores have three daughters in the area and have assisted at the Newhauser hatchery where Mr Beagle is manager. Mrs Stillberger and Gene will move to Carey into the corner property at Vance and Brayton streets now occupied by Mr and Mrs Paul Kauffman.

Funeral attendee ill with ptomaine poisoning in Ohio

F B Phillips aged 78 of near Springville fell ill with ptomaine poisoning after attending a relative's funeral in Warren. En route to Carey he and his granddaughter and her husband Cloyce Rader were taken to Barberton hospital, then home by ambulance, with improving condition by Tuesday.

Harry Bristoll, local undertaker, was named secretary-treasurer of the newly organized Association of Funeral Directors of the 8th district of Ohio at a Huntsville meeting last Thursday evening. Lab Accepts Superintendent Role for Baltimore and Ohio Tracks

B. T. Lab of W. Northstreet has accepted a post with The Jones Contracting and Construction Co. of Detroit as superintendent of construction. He begins duties in East St. Louis Illinois with full charge of constructing tracks for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, expanding the yards there.

Brashares Father Returns With Son From Summer Visit

Lionel Brashares of Chicago arrived Friday and was accompanied home Sunday by his son Lee who had spent the summer with Lee's grandmother Mrs Nora Brashares. The father is an assistant to Bowey's Inc general sales manager, maker of Dairy Rich Chocolate.

The Carey Kiwanis club met at Trubey's restaurant Monday. Earl Burson announced G. A. Hartman would join the vocational guidance committee replacing Earl Driver. Sgt. Leslie Reynolds spoke of his European war experiences and the A-26 bomber was praised. The program committee summarized Kiwanis magazine articles. Guest J. B. William V. Carr Expected Home Today

Carey native T/8 William V. Carr is en route home under the Green Project as part of the Air Transport Command Caribbean division. He arrived back in the U S August 19 after 10 months overseas with the 374th field artillery battalion, 100th division, and was discharged at Indiantown Gap Pa after a stop at Camp Blanding. Carr has two battle stars and a good conduct ribbon.

Carey Cooperative Foods Inspects Locker Plants

Carey Cooperative Food Lockers board members visited frozen food locker plants in Wapakoneta and St. Marys on Tuesday. They examined locker types and equipment with T. D. Romig, Earl Burson, L. A. Reinhart, Robert Mott, and L. O. Pratt present. Contracts for a new Carey plant are expected to be let in days.

Fires Sweep Through Carey Area This Week

Last week the Carey fire department responded to three small incidents. A shed burned at the Mrs C D Smith farm near Carey due to burning trash. A fire above the Farm Bureau hammermill was quickly extinguished. A grass fire at the end of N Lake Street was put out after a third alarm.

Airman Rex Huston to Report for Duty in Santa Ana

T/Sgt. Rex Huston leaves Saturday for Santa Ana California to report for duty after a 30 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs V H Huston. He is a turret gunner previously with the 12th air force serving in Africa Italy and Corsica for two years. Huston completed 77 missions and has 1019 points with the last 14 missions delivering supplies to Italian partisans behind German lines.

80 Day Furlough For T/Sgt Glenn W. Shuman

T/Sgt Glenn W. Shuman arrived in Carey from Camp Atterbury Indiana for a 30 day furlough with his father Carl Shuman. He previously served two years in the European theater of operations with the 47th Troop Carrier Squadron and 313th Troop Carrier Group of the 1st Allied Airborne Army. He will report for reassignment at Camp Atterbury.

Rev Lee Returns for Seventh Year at Ohio Evangelical Conference

The 108th session of the Ohio conference at Trinity Evangelical Church Upper Sandusky closed with pastor appointments. Bishop George K Epp announced reassignments including Rev B L Lee to Carey Memorial Church and Rev L H Naumann to First Church Caniton. Several exchanges and retirements were noted among clergy, with seven ministers retiring and a merger vote tally of 166 in favor to 25 against.

Ralph J. Knaup A World War II Veteran Returns

Ralph J. Knaup of Carey Ohio is stationed at the redistribution station in Fort Oglethorpe Ga for two weeks before new duty. He served 38 months in the European and Asiatic theaters as a supply sergeant with the corps of engineers and earned the Good Conduct Medal American Defense Ribbon and European Theater Ribbon with five campaign stars. Returning veterans receive physicals tests and GI Bill information during processing with time to rest, relax and tour nearby communities.
