The Carey fire department responded to a blaze in a 10 acre wheat field owned by Mr and Mrs Kenneth Dible three miles south of Carey Friday at 1 pm The fire along the New York Central right of way burned straw and stubble and is believed to have started from sparks from a passenger train passing the area moments earlier.

SGT Wentling Discharged After World War II Service
SGT Velmer Wentling, son of Mr and Mrs Ervin Wentling, south of Carey, received an honorable discharge at Camp Atterbury Indiana. Ralph Phillips Discharged From Army Returns Home

Sergeant Niederkohr Completes Army Discharge
Sergeant Leon H. Niederkohr arrived at his parents’ rural home near Carey after receiving his U S Army discharge at Camp Atterbury Indiana. He logged 121 points in three years served including Africa and Italy duties as B 24 crew chief with the 98th bombardment group later reorganized for Pacific service. He earned a Presidential unit citation along with an African and European ribbon and 11 battle stars. He returned to the United States April 29 1945 and has since been at various camps awaiting war outcomes following transfer from Alamogordo New Mexico just before the atomic test.

Soldier to Receive Discharge at Camp Atterbury
Pfe David Stansberry left Camp Chaffee Arkansas Tuesday for Camp Atterbury Indiana where he will receive a discharge from the army. He plans to live with his brother and sister in Carey upon return.
