Our Lady of Consolation Branch of the C K O will hold a social Thursday evening October 15 at the parish hall. The event is open to members friends and families with state officers expected to attend. Everyone urged to come and enjoy a big time.
Banns printed Sunday at Our Lady of Consolation church announce the first-time publication for the marriages of Hilda Henige and Frank Schira of Carey, and Elizabeth Kinstle of Wapakoneta and Ignatius Pahl of Findlay. The Kinstle Pahl ceremony is set for October 7 at St Joseph’s in Wapakoneta with residence to be Findlay.
Mrs. John Shipp died Thursday last at the home of her daughter Mrs. Laura Geiger after a stroke endured for three years. Born Sarah Jane Baker near Shelby, Richland County, she was 79. She married Theodore Siait in 1863, with three children born. two survive: Mrs. Laura Geiger of Hastings and George Siait of St. Louis. In 1911 she married John Shupp, who survives, along with five grandchildren and four brothers. She belonged to the United Brethren Church at Hastings for over 40 years. Funeral services were held Saturday at Mrs. Geiger’s home, conducted by Rev. A. G. Tozer, with interment in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Sycamore.
The church board meets Friday October 2 to discuss important business. Sunday October 4 marks Jubilee Year events highlighting 125 years since founding 75 years of Europe work 50 years of foreign mission in Japan 25 years in China. A foreign day offering aims to raise 60000 dollars nationwide to fund missions.
An 8-pound daughter to Mr and Mrs Clarence Ruffing on Sunday. An 8-pound daughter to Mr and Mrs Cyrus Virdon on Sunday evening named Zelma Ruth. A 6 1 2 pound daughter Friday morning to Mr and Mrs Clarence Smith of Frederick street named Virginia Lee. An 8 1 4 pound daughter Sunday afternoon to Mr and Mrs Willis Putnam named Rita Jean. Mrs Putnam formerly Miss Helen Bleam. A 7-pound son to Mr and Mrs Charles Stine of Pittsburg Wednesday forenoon at the Findlay Home and Hospital. Mrs Stine is the daughter of Postmaster and Mrs Herbert Newhard and has been in Carey for several weeks on a visit.
Friday night in Findlay street a Mexican worker at the Hocking Valley bought gloves at G W Hickle’s. A man spotted him return, slip into the clothing store, and exit with two suits of overalls. An alarm sounded and bystanders captured him, but he escaped after surrendering the garments.
The Ohio Dairy Products Association with Ohio State University and state health and agriculture departments awarded certificates of merit to Wyandot county cream station operators Richard Smith of Carey and H S Swerlein of McCutcheonville for improving cream quality for butter making.
Ladies Auxiliary hosts an afternoon tea at Mrs D Ewing’s home on W Findlay Street Wednesday October from 2 to 5 pm to benefit the Legion Endowment Fund. Event features bridge 500 euchre and rock games, admission 50 cents. Public invited.
Harold Welliver captain of the Willard high school football team broke his left ankle when tackled while carrying the ball near the end of the first half in Saturday afternoon’s game played here.
Enos Stahl and Esther L Weber wed in Bloomville after facing Michigan marriage-law delays. The Michigan trip aimed to wed in Detroit but was delayed by five day residence rules. the couple returned to Ohio to complete the ceremony with Esther's parents present. The report also notes a Times Circulation Campaign with large vote bonuses for subscriptions and lists several contestants aiming for a Chrysler touring car prize.
While returning from Carey, Mr and Mrs Charles Barton and Mrs Gilbert Hayes with daughter Doris were in an auto crash on a new road near Ashville. The car slipped into a ditch and rolled over but all escaped with minor injuries. Madge Barton was visiting her uncle in Toledo.
Carey Mill and Elevator Co hosted the Buckeye Group of the Ohio Millers Association at the Galt Hotel on Wednesday. D C Henry, general manager of the Carey Mill, chaired the gathering with sixteen visitors from Columbus Marion Forest Clyde Tiffin Findlay Bluffton and Bowling Green.

Jesus Mata arrived from Mexico to claim the body of his son Abundio Mata killed by a Hocking Valley train two weeks ago. Mata, a gravel and sand contractor, is staying at a construction camp in Fostoria delaying the body’s return until early next week. The Mex consul at Detroit will assist the father in handling death matters.
A Ford bound for Columbus veered off course around 3 PM, struck a telephone pole south of Wm. Sammet's near Crawford, and was towed to Carey. The occupants were uninjured and continued to Columbus in a new Dodge.
Marion lawmen arrested Harry Anderson after he allegedly took 250 dollars from Joy's restaurant cash drawer. He appeared before Mayor Blue in Carey, with 23.24 dollars found on him and 11 dollars claimed as wages. A 30 day jail term was suspended if he repaid Joy.
Kiwanis held a noon meeting with good attendance. C. E. Palmer, new superintendent of schools, named chairman of the library committee. original members retained. Dr. Johnson described a motor trip from Sault Ste Marie to Jacksonville via the Dixie Highway. Next meeting at 6 pm features speaker Mr. Devine of Columbus on taxation. ladies invited.
On Sunday morning the pastor preaches Faith and Free. The Luther League meets at 6 30. Evening services present talks on Problems that Perplex Is God on Trial The Problem of Prayer. Next Sunday begins the new church year. Miss Margie Sutphen is new financial secretary succeeding L E Straw. The annual Synod of Ohio meeting occurs in Findlay the week of Oct 19.
Mrs C Meriman aged 68 died Monday after a period of illness with Brights disease. Funeral held at her Kenton home with extensive attendance including Mr and Mrs Slyvester Shuman and others. She was formerly May Corwin and lived on a farm west of town now owned by George Shuman. Survived by husband and son L Josh in Canton who edits three Hoover periodicals.
A thirty year old Town ordinance required motorists to telephone ahead to warn for nervous horses and stampede dangers. In Kansas a 1877 law forced all mates aged 12 to 60 to be ready to kill grasshoppers. Both laws were recently repealed.
