Wyandot County announces the 1951 March of Dimes drive starting Friday November 24 to raise 14000 for polio patient care and to repay a 3700 loan to the National Foundation. Local chairman Leo Jones urges 100 donations of 100 or more and asks churches schools and lodges to form committees to meet the year end goal.
Carey High announces the 1950 51 basketball opener against Bluffton Pirates on December 1 at home. Returning lettermen include David Ying ling Paul England and Jim Hall with battles for two spots among seniors and underclassmen like Ross Briggs David Myers George Swilwemley and Bill Bayes plus juniors and sophomores Lyle Orians Bob Cole and Skip Williams. The schedule lists December 1 home game versus Bluffton and a slate through February 9 with games at and home across multiple towns and opponents.
James Brown won the annal Prince of Peace Contest with a close victory. Betty Lou Niederkohr placed second. Jim will advance to the county contest to face stiff competition and perform his best. Judges included Miss Neumeister Mrs Kuenzli and Miss Oman. Rev Cope arrived late and presented the medal.
On Thursday evening November 16 English Literature classes from the school traveled by bus to Tiffin to view Sir Lawrence Olivier's Hamlet. The trip, led by Mrs Newhard, Miss Grieser and Miss Lyden, complemented current Shakespeare studies and proved educational and engaging for the students.
The sophomore class held a party in the school cafeteria Tuesday with music from the new public address system praised as rivaling dance orchestras. Hot dogs and pop were served. sponsors Mrs. Josephine Newhard and Mr. Lewis Hawks attended.
The Latin II class initiated the French I class last Tuesday evening. The group enjoyed refreshments after the initiatory ceremony. A 7 pound 11 ounce daughter Patricia Ann was born at 8 45 am Friday to Mr and Mrs Willis Walters of 113 Downtree Wyandot Memorial hospital Upper Sandusky. Her sister Jeannette is a year old and her mother is Mabel Craft. The father is son of Mr and Mrs Martin Walters of Vaulue. A 6 pound 7 ounce son Michael Eugene was born early Monday to Mr and Mrs Richard Lessig southeast of Upper Sandusky. Virginia Opper is the mother before marriage and first grandchild of Mr and Mrs Opper. The father is son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Lessig north of Carey. Michael Eugene is the first child for the Lessigs and first grandchild for the Opper family.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge No. 656 will hold a regular meeting Tuesday evening at 7:80. One candidate will be initiated and a social will follow. Committee in charge includes Mrs. Pharos Schmuck as chairman and several other named members.
Remember the Band Mothers benefit dance at Carey high school Friday November 214 at 8 30 p m with Clayton Decker's orchestra. Admission 50 cents. children under 12 admitted free when accompanied by parents. Also cake walk and refreshments.
At noon Tuesday 34 volunteers reported a total of 2120 dollars collected by Community Chest solicitors. About 1000 dollars remained to reach the 3100 dollar goal.
Wyandot county CROP committee prepares to ship one carload of soybeans to the Christian Agency for tool products distribution. County treasurer John Debolt reports nearly 1500 bushels of soybeans 75 bushels of wheat 59 bushels of corn pledged along with 1800 dollars cash for grain purchases. The drive began mid September and ends November 25 with further contributions encouraged before that date.
The Shrine church of Our Lady of Consolation receives a multi colored marble baptismal font from Caprato Studios in Chicago donated by the Earl Reinhardt family of Portsmouth Ohio. A brass ambry will be installed soon donated by the Dell Mathern family of Carey. A sanctuary lamp honoring E. M. Reinhart of Carey is placed in the sanctuary. Upcoming events include a December 1 show of holy year pilgrimage photos at Catholic hall and a December 6 Feather Party and Bazaar hosted by parish groups with activities, raffles, and Santa Claus.
Hobart Tong, Carey police officer, was lightly injured Wednesday morning while hunting on the Raymond Riedlinger farm northwest of Carey when an unidentified hunter fired at a pheasant. Three shots hit the right side of Tong's face, two penetrating skin, a fourth struck his right thumb. He was treated at home by his wife.
Star guard Carey poured in a high scoring performance for the home team, leading the offense with a series of drives and shots. Teammate contributions balanced the attack as the crowd cheered a decisive win at the local arena.
The Carey high school athletic committee has engaged Coach Wes Fesler of Ohio State University to speak at the football banquet on Thursday evening December 14 at 6 30 in the basement of Christ Lutheran Church. Public invited. Carey Jaycees Kiwanis and Lions clubs cooperate on ticket sales 175 each.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stoll observe their 50th wedding anniversary with open house on November 27 at 629 W Findlay Street Carey. Their son Clifford Stoll of E Findlay Street plans the celebration. The couple married November 27 1900 in Upper Sandusky.
At the Crawford chapter No 168 Order of the Eastern Star meeting, officers for 1951 were elected: Worthy Matron Mrs Robert Mott, Worthy Patron Robert Mott, Associate Matron Mrs Carson Canade, Associate Patron Carson Canade, Secretary Mrs Frank Moyer, Treasurer Mrs Martha Spensler, Conductress Mrs Wendell Myers, Associate Conductress Mrs Ferdinand Williams, 3-year Trustee Wallace Dible. They will be installed at the December meeting.
Poverello Credit Union schedules an evening of dancing Sunday November 26 at 8 pm in the Catholic hall. Two orchestras will provide square and round dancing. Open to all with no admission charge.

They were accompanied by Mrs Wentling and Mrs Cope.

Mr and Mrs E L Marquet sold their 2/8 acre Ridge township farm home three miles west of Carey on Route 15 to Mr and Mrs Fred McLoughlin of 143 Newhard Street. They retain four acres and have a 6 room bath ranch foundation laid. McLoughlins will move in December 15. Marquets plan to live in a trailer until their new residence is finished.
Mrs. W. H. Sloman has been bedfast part of the time this week. Ralph Chesebrough of Fenton Michigan was a week end guest of his cousin Miss Jennie Steen. Mr and Mrs Richard Spayd and daughter Holly were dinner guests Sunday of Mr Spayd's uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs George Burgess in Bellevue. Miss Ruth Walter a student nurse at Maumee Valley hospital Toledo was a week end guest of her father W. M. Walter and children Jack Naomi and Sue. Mrs Don Hunter on Sunday afternoon was admitted to Find lay hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for hernia. She is getting along as well as can be expected and will be hospitalized at least a week.
