The May Carey F F A meeting elected officers including President Bernard Karcher and Vice President Billy Wenner. Carey F F A defeated Upper Sandusky 20 to 2 in a May 12 baseball game, followed by a 11 to 4 win last Monday. Billy Vaughn reports.

Perfect attendance pupils honored with stamps

Jane Ellen Walter was the only girl and John Billock Jr the only boy in our room to have perfect attendance for the school year. They were each presented with 50 cents in defense stamps from their teacher. Monday afternoon our class visited the library.

Alumni Association Dance and Reception for 1942 Seniors

The Carey High School Alumni Association holds a reception and semi formal dance for the senior class of 1942 at the high school auditorium. It takes place Friday May 29 at 8 o'clock with refreshments provided. Navy enlistment for Paul Burson from Carey

Paul Burson son of Earl Burson of Carey passed his final exam for enlistment in the United States Naval Reserves in Cincinnati Monday. He left for Washington D C that evening and was assigned to duty Tuesday after completing his junior year at Ohio State university.

Minister and Delegate to Conference Will Go Next Tuesday

Rev. Donald W. Cryer will depart for the annual Methodist conference at Central church Springfield. C. G. Laird to serve as lay delegate for the local congregation with Mrs. Harry Hosafros as reserve. Cryer reports include 50 members added this year and $1100 for church and parsonage improvements plus $1350 for missionary and humanitarian work beyond Carey.

Girl Scout Troop I Advances in Defense Program

The senior Girl Scouts of Troop I continue cooperation with local and national defense policies. They donated half of cookie sale proceeds to the National Red Cross and most members have completed junior first aid, now pursuing Senior Service Scout badge requirements.

Redicks Attend Army Commission Ceremony In Columbus

Mr and Mrs H E Redick of five miles northwest of Carey traveled to Columbus for the Army commissions ceremony. Their son Harold Redick received a commission as Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and is a senior at Ohio State University majoring in accounting and affiliated with Beta Alpha Psi. He also serves as an accounting laboratory instructor. His wife is Elizabeth Howard of Carey.

Farewell Chapel Awards At Local High School

A senior farewell chapel in the high school auditorium awarded perfect attendance certificates across grades seven to twelve. Prizes included general merit prizes, band, safety, athletic, and 8th grade awards, plus letters and plaques from the Carey Schools Band Mothers club with multiple students honored.

Nurse Rosemary Brooks Graduates From Lucas County Hospital

Miss Rosemary Brooks a nurse at Lucas County hospital visited for a three week vacation at her parents home Mr and Mrs Lawrence Brooks. She belonged to the hospital school of nursing class graduated on May 12 and her Carey High School diploma ties her early training. A picture of the class appeared in Sundays Toledo Times.

Carey lodge to hold special meeting and sunrise service

A special meeting of Carey lodge No. 420 F and A M is set for Thursday evening with a delegation from Forest lodge present. Work in the Master Mason degree to open Saturday morning at 4 oclock and a Masonic sunrise service will be held, with breakfast served.

Water Main Break Cuts Off Village Supply

A water main at the New York Central crossing of E South Street broke Tuesday evening, causing a large water loss. Crews repaired the line by 5 am Wednesday and turned water off at midnight. A Soda Grill ice cream freezer unit overheated causing damage to the motor condenser and cabinet. Mrs. Cleo Green reported smoke and the fire department quickly extinguished the blaze. Loss insured.

Enlisted Private Orion Wilgus Leaves for Training Base

Pvt Orion Wilgus enlisted in the Air Corps two months ago and, after a furlough at home, departed Saturday for Patterson Field in Fairfield Ohio. On Monday he was sent with a group of 10 men to a training base on the California coast.

Eagles District Meeting and Initiation at Carey Hall

Mr and Mrs Wilfrid Logsdon south of Carey report their son Edmund with the Marines sent a card this week. It is their first communication from him in eight weeks. The card shows the date April 13 the words U S Navy and the censor's stamp.

Memorial Day Observance by American Legion Post 344

American Legion Post 344 will observe Memorial Day on Saturday May 30 with a 9 am assembly at 8S Vance Street and a 9:15 am parade to Spring Grove Cemetery in a procession led by Colors Band Firing Squad Spanish American War veterans and others. A 9:45 am program at the cemetery includes invocation wreath placing address by J D Blackford and music by Carey Schools band. After services the group proceeds to St Marys Cemetery then returns to the Legion hall and dismisses. Fr Joseph Hero will lead memorial prayer and benediction with Fr Joseph M D Shafer in charge.

Wealtha Wentling Receives Honor At University

Bowling Green State University honors assembly features Wealtha Wentling a 21 year old senior from Carey who works as a waitress. She receives the Faculty Women's club scholarship and the summa cum laude award for education scholarship with mostly A grades and minor B grades. Other high ranking seniors are named including Hannah Blackburn James Ludwick Ruth Meek Alma Roach and Wealthya Wentling cum laude and Rita Snyder Siebens trophy winner.
