Public School News reports the 1936 Caryatid was received and distributed last week. Faculty held a informal luncheon with 28 members attending. Senior class activities were discussed by student leaders and Kiwanis participants.
The Band Mothers club discussed a summer activity program at the May 18 meeting including a picnic and a public recital. They scheduled their next regular quarterly meeting for early July.
The senior band will inaugurate its summer concert schedule with a performance on June 10. Details indicate the event kicks off a series planned for the season.
Patricia Beitel and Margaret Haferd were elected student governor and sodality prefect at Saint Mary of the Springs College. Louise Ferguson presided as retiring student governor. Beitel is a junior and Haferd is a daughter of Ralph Haferd.
The Carey Farmers' Community club met at the Moose hall Monday evening. An orchestra from Vanlue and Mr Blanchard with members John Snook, Mr Bright, and Mr Sampson provided music. T D Arnold spoke on insects. Next meeting committee includes L H Orians, J T Myers, H E Hetzel. Feed committee lists H J Wolfe, John Guttenburg, E F Thome.
The Carey Mill and Elevator Co will close its office for the entire Saturday but remain open Friday night. The ice house stays open until 10 30 a m Saturday and the residential route operates Saturday.
Crawford township trustees will meet Friday at 7 30 pm at the township hall replacing the previously scheduled Saturday session. Clerk THOME notes the adjustment in the notice.
Carey launches Safety Week with the Citizens Safety Committee formed at the library. Mayor Hunter and the Kiwanis club back the effort, aiming for mass meetings, police checks, poster campaigns, pledges, and car stickers to curb rising automobile fatalities and injuries in 1935 and 1936.
May Day at Findlay College marks the 28th annual festival with over 350 attending the May breakfast at the Elk’s home. Miss Evelyn Hosafros performed piano during lunch, while Jester House and John Yohe provided comic entertainment.
Robert Hagley, son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Hagley and sister Mary, along with Russell, attended Grove City commencement as part of the class of 1947. He returned to Carey Sunday evening with his parents and will stay a week before returning to Grove City for the summer.

Memorial Evangelical Sunday school Philathea class will host a social at the parsonage Tuesday evening June 2 with Mrs W Sager coordinating. Mrs Robert Cook of Bucyrus will attend and entertain with readings. she formerly taught public speaking at Bucyrus High School.

J. Martin, a rural route carrier, received a $10 Chrysler award for outstanding service in Ohio during March. He completed 6110 stops total over 26 days, driving 2107 miles and averaging 14 miles per gallon.
Fr Paul Vollrath attended the 25th anniversary of Indiana Seminary and served as its first rector. Fr Cyprian Terwoord and Fr Giles joined from Saturday to Monday for Mount St Francis Pro-Seminary’s 23rd anniversary at Floyd Knobs Ind.
Cy's Chevrolet softball team meets Porcelain Thursday at 6 30 in the Hitching Ground Diamond on W North Street. Spectators invited to watch a competitive game.
The Carey schools band directed by Leonard Klein will present a summer concert Wednesday evening featuring selections such as Father of Victory Overture Urbana Marche Militaire Queen City Simple Living Officer of the Day Volse Bleue Scarlet King Fairest of the Fair and more. The program includes works by Ganney Roberts Schubert Boom Margis Jewell Sousa and others.
The village council designates the week of June 8 1936 as Safety Week and urges citizens to cooperate with officials and safety committees to reduce traffic accidents and promote careful driving and adherence to regulations. Mayor Charles E Hunter signs the proclamation.
Carey Council Grand Knight John Greer reports the state convention in Toledo drew 300 delegates from 25 000 Ohio Knights. A resolution denounced Mexico for religious persecution and press and worship restrictions and urged U S diplomatic action to end Red Mexico. Senator Walsh and Bishop Alter urged defense of the Constitution and Supreme Court. State officers including Frank G Jones were reelected.
On Tuesday evening May 12 the 4-H club boys met in the high school agriculture room and elected President Vincent Brown Secretary Treasurer Henry Brown recreation reader Leo Vaughn and news reporter Harold Reinhart Twenty four boys signed up for club work Projects chosen include pig dairy colt market lambs potatoes breeding sheep and rabbits The next meeting is postponed to June 4 due to the senior class reception at the school house on the regular meeting date June 2.
The Reverend Roderick Orians will celebrate his first solemn Mass at 10 30 a.m. Sunday June 7 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Ordination to the priesthood will be conferred by Archbishop Edmund F Gibbons on Saturday June 6 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Albany NY. Fr Orians is the son of Mr and Mrs R M Orfans of a mile southwest of Carey. A reception will follow on the afternoon of June 7.
Sharon Speedway near Warren resumes its sixth season on Decoration Day with 25 dirt cars from Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. Six events include a 10-lap dash for the six fastest, three 10-lap qualifiers, a 10-lap consolation, and a 40-lap feature. Entry list features Gail Lanker, Bud Henderson, Jerry Berry, Paul Williamson plus Deb Snyder, Bud Emerick, Ray Campbell, Donee Shanebrook, Windy Jennings. Wild Bill Carr debuts in Joe Catone’s car. Qualifying begins 11 am EST and main program 2:30 pm EST.
A local business apologizes to the American Legion and patriotic citizens for open Saturday Memorial Day. The notice states stores will be open all day Saturday and Saturday evening and will remain open Sunday morning until further notice.
Earl Green Post of the American Legion will hold Memorial Day services at Spring Grove Cemetery at 9 30 a.m. Saturday May 30. The event is open to all villagers and no parade will be held. Legionnaires should report to the club rooms at 9 a.m. sharp.
Leonard Klein, instrumental music instructor at the local high school, reports his brother Fred Klein of New York City has been assigned first horn in the Rochester Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
A daughter weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces was born to Mr and Mrs Ira C Shick of Kenton on Monday morning. Mr and Mrs W G Bradley announce the birth of a daughter to their son and daughter in law Lieut and Mrs M M Bradley in Seaside hospital Long Beach California on May 11. She has been named Ellen.
Mra Louis Fenbere of Findlay will speak at the Townsend club meeting at the public library Monday evening. The public is invited to attend.
A graduating class of 34 from Carey High School was celebrated with a baccalaureate sermon by Rev. Marion B. Tinsler and a commencement program in the school auditorium. Honors included valedictorian Mabel Altvater and salutatorian Christine Hoff, with multiple students receiving achievement awards and keys.
The rhubarb pie membranes on display in The Carew Times window come from a garden run by Mrs Alvin Grady on FE South street. The stalk reaches 47 inches to the leaf tip, with leaves about 27 by 30 inches at their widest.
The class of 1936 will be honored with a reception Tuesday evening at 13 welock in the high school auditorium by the Carey high school alumni association. Dancing and cards will follow a short program. Light refreshments will be served.
