Senior Farewell And Award Assembly 1948 Honors Given

The Tuesday assembly honored the Senior Class of 1948 with Perfect Attendance awards to Dorothy Weaver and multiple Subject and Scholarship recipients including Ruth Calmes Samuel McChesney Horace Newhard Elizabeth Romig Jane Haford and others. Eighth Grade tests spelling awards and seventh grade honor roll pupils were announced. Special awards named Valedictorian Horace Newhard and Salutatorian Jane Haford. Horace also led as Editor and Business Manager of the 1948 Caryatid.

Lutheran Brotherhood Meeting Tonight at Carey Parish House

The Brotherhood of Christ Lutheran Church Carey will hold its regular monthly social tonight May 27 at 8 pm in the parish house. Rev. J Seim of Upper Sandusky, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, will be the speaker. Refreshments by Frank Edwards chair, Calvin Callahan, Grover C Wagner and George Newhard. All men invited.

Memorial Day Plans for Wharton

Memorial Day services will be held Sunday May 30 in Wharton cemetery. Rev Don Bennett pastor of E A B will speak at 10 30 a m. Boy and Girl Scout troops will assemble in the public square and march to the cemetery to assist the Carey American Legion post in paying tribute to the dead of all wars.

Passing of Old Landmark to Be Sold Saturday Afternoon

The St. Johns Church building six miles northwest of Carey, owned by the Hickory Grove Cemetery Association since 1927, will be sold to the highest bidder Saturday at 1 00 o’clock. The 85 year old white church sits near Hickory Grove cemetery in Hancock County and has long served local congregations linked to the Evangelical and United Evangelical traditions.

Carey Village Seeks Third Mail Route To Improve Delivery

J A Schira postmaster has applied to postal authorities for a third mail delivery route in Carey. The need arose as two routes could not serve some village sections more than once daily. If approved, the route will begin soon. Harold Emerine, long time substitute clerk, is made permanent by the civil service commission. Ferdinand Williams becomes a substitute clerk and his twin Frederick a substitute carrier.

Couple Injured After Niagra Falls Trip Car Crash

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Smith married Saturday afternoon were returning from a trip to Niagara Falls when their car hit a vehicle parked on a curve near Elyria at 12 30 am Sunday. Mrs Smith, formerly Anna Fox, suffered severe injuries including a broken jaw a deep cut over the left eye and another near the mouth. She was treated at Good Samaritan hospital Sandusky and later stayed with her parents. Mr Smith had minor injuries and the couple’s car was demolished.

Victory Class Meeting Set for Wednesday Evening

Saturday Poppy Day Honors War Dead Nationwide

American Legion Auxiliary volunteers distribute crepe paper poppies to honor fallen soldiers from World Wars I and II. Contributions fund disabled veterans rehabilitation and child welfare. poppies locally crafted by veterans at Sandusky Soldiers and Sailors Home. Mrs. James Lindsay leads the effort in Earl Green Unit with a large volunteer corps downtown and in neighborhoods.

Kiwanis Meeting Draws Large Turnout in Fostoria

Charles Mathern finishes a nine month baking course at Dunwoody Technical School of Baking within Dunwoody Industrial Institute Minneapolis. He will travel to Chicago to visit friends and previously earned a 10 day cake decorating course at Walton School. He holds a diploma from Standard Brand Yeast Co.

Stores Closed Monday Observed Memorial Day in Carey

Memorial Day falls on Sunday this year and Carey merchants announce Monday May 31 will be a holiday. Most stores will close Monday and bread and baked goods deliveries will be suspended by bakeries to merchants on that day.
