Farewell Party for Principal Huffman at Praclic High

The Praclic High student council and senior class held a May 17 farewell party for Mr Huffman with a program group singing and a cakewalk. Students presented a gift in appreciation for his leadership. A May 16 sociology trip to Columbus funded by Kiwanis included visits to the penitentiary the feeble minded institution and the state capital building.

Missionary Miss Harriet Howey to Speak at Tea

Miss Harriet Howey on furlough from Japan will address the M E church missionary society and friends at Mrs S B Chesebro’s home next Tuesday at 8 pm. It is the annual mite box meeting and all are invited to hear about conditions in Japan and church work.

Social Security Aid Arrives in Carey Friday Morning

R G Mish manager of Mans field office serving Richland Ashland Mor row Marion Crawford and Wyandot counties will be at the Carey post office from 9 30 a m to 10 30 a m Friday May 27. He will provide information on old age insurance under the Social Security Act and assist those seeking to file claims obtain account numbers or identification cards.

Pythian Sisters Hold Meeting With Initiation and May Event

Last Thursday evening the Pythian Sisters initiated one candidate. The April 1 May birthday committee organized a social and a Mother's Day program. Prizes went to Mrs. J F Dible and Mrs C Carr. Poems for Mother's Day were read by Mrs F G L Moyer and Mother Goose Thymes were recited by attendees. Refreshments were served by Mrs Chester Vogel and Mrs Nelson McLarkey.

Miss June Matuck of Westinghouse will demonstrate modern electric cooking at Catholic Hall on Thursday June 2 at 7 30 PM. The session, hosted by W H Houk & Son, aims to show homemakers how electric cookery can be cheaper and more convenient than traditional methods. Local merchants support the event.

Carey High Band Opens Summer Concert Series

The Carey high school band directed by Leonard Klein begins a Wednesday evening concert series downtown on June 8. The event marks the start of a summer schedule featuring performances by the school group.

Statistics show Carey received 2025 dollars and Crawford township 200 dollars in liquor permit fees returned by the state. Wyandot county total 7979.76 dollars in permit refunds to municipalities and townships from liquor license payments. Tiffin Pilgrims Visit Carey Shrine

Several hundred pilgrims traveled by bus and car to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey for the annual Tiffin day observance. The Rev. George May of St Josephs church led the pilgrimage Mass with a 2 30 procession.

Memorial Day Observance Planned by American Legion

Earl Green Post of the American Legion outlines a Memorial Day program for Monday May 30. The procession assembles at the Legion Home on St Vance street and parades to Spring Grove cemetery at 9 30 a m. The service includes a memorial prayer by Rev Joseph Herp a M C wreath laying by Commander William Orians music by Carey Schools Band a sermon by Rev Marion E B Tinsler a moment of silence the Star Spangled Banner taps and a firing squad. Eagles to Host Springfield Giants in Sunday Baseball

The Carey Eagles meet the Springfield Giants a colored team from Springfield Sunday afternoon at Lakeland field on route 108 south of town. Lefty Parsell and Layton will pitch for Carey with Hayden Fouts catching. Eagles won their first game last Sunday 4 to 1 over Lima Merchants. Trustees appoint Dave Orians as manager. players to attend Friday at 6 PM.

Tinsler Named Head of Carey Community Chest Board

Rev Marion E Tinsler was elected chairman of the Carey Community Chest for 1938 39 at the first meeting of the Executive Board on May 5. Mrs Paul Powell was reelected secretary treasurer. Reports of last year were reviewed and pledges unpaid were appealed for immediate payment.

Sycamore to seek new electric contract and curb fireworks

The Ohio Power Co plans lower rates for Sycamore and will be given a chance to adjust. The village council authorized bidding for a new contract to replace the current one with a year left, and passed an ordinance banning fireworks on village streets and alleys.
