Carey High School Band Banquet Honors Members and Seniors

Thursday evening May 10 the Carey High School Concert Band and Orchestra were honored at a Band Mothers banquet. Tables featured miniature bass drums and band member replicas while Richard Downs spoke on The Value of Band Work. Awards were given by director Lewis Hawk and gold charms awarded to senior members by Mrs Perry Mc Daniel.

G A A Banquet Honors Seniors at Gibbins Restaurant

The G A A held its annual banquet on May 9 at Gibbins Restaurant with guests including Mr. and Mrs. Cloyce Wentling and past president Norma Strahm. The program featured tap dancing, a solo, and class farewell songs, followed by officer elections and awards for outstanding members and ideal girls across classes.

Carey Band Mothers Host Cadet Picnic at Memorial Park

The Carey Band Mothers hosted 27 Cadet Band members for an afternoon picnic in Memorial Park on May 12. The event featured contests games and a lunch served by the Band Mothers with awards presented to each member by Mr Hawk.

Burson Elected Ohio JayCee Vice-President

Atty. Paul A. Burson was elected vice-president of the Ohio Junior Chamber of Commerce at the state convention in Columbus. He will oversee about 13 Northwestern Ohio local groups, join the state executive board, and appoint at least two state committees. Joe Newhard campaigned for him alongside Dr. H. R. Wenner and Rex Huston. The Carey Jaycees also named new officers for 1951 1952 led by President Joe Newhard and Vice-President Allan Smith Jr.

Silver Jubilee Celebrated For Rev Ambrose Finnegan

The Very Rev Ambrose Finnegan OFM Conv rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation at Carey will celebrate his silver ordination jubilee with a solemn Mass for relatives and parishioners on May 27 at 10 30 EST. A reception and dinners follow for clergy and guests. Father Ambrose born December 26 1902 has served as pastor in Lorain and since 1942 as superior and rector at Carey.

Four Deer Spotted Near Romig Farm and Vincent Orians Farm

Early Monday morning Glenn Barger sighted four small Pennsylvania type deer on Sunnyside road and they crossed into a Romig pasture west of Carey. The Romig family observed them as they moved west toward the old Findlay branch railroad. Ruth Kloepfer also saw the four deer Saturday evening near the Vincent Orians farm crossing to woods.
