The Rev. Edward Collet OFM Conv. of Broken Bow Nebraska was seriously injured when his car was struck by a diesel powered train at a crossing in Ansley Nebraska He suffered a broken left arm in three places a fractured left leg facial lacerations and heavy blood loss requiring transfusions He was taken to St Francis Hospital Grand Island 45 miles away Walter Holly a passenger was less seriously injured Both drivers waited for one train to pass and failed to see another approaching on a different track The car was demolished and Fr Edward’s family traveled to Grand Island to be with him

C&O Railway seeks to discontinue Columbus Toledo passenger trains
The Chesapeake & Ohio Railway filed with the Ohio Public Service Commission to discontinue passenger trains Nos. 35 and 36 between Columbus and Toledo. It says service is unnecessary and losses have risen, claiming no undue hardship on travelers or communities. The line notes national rail passenger deficits reached 615.5 million in 1950, with C&O at 13.8 million.

A fire of undetermined origin swept the Carey Theatre lobby last Wednesday afternoon causing several thousand dollars in damage.
