Richard Slagle executive secretary of the Findlay Chamber of Commerce spoke to Carey Kiwanis about attracting new industry to Findlay and securing airline service for the area. He noted Carey’s growth since 1950 and led four small groups to rank local needs, with better community spirit emerging as the top priority.

The Carey chapter of Future Homemakers of America ends its year with a park potluck and a brief meeting to elect next year’s officers: Carolyn Troiano president Marilyn Tewell vice president Norma Doppler secretary Lucille Kitzler treasurer Louann Schade historian Barbara Baughman parliamentarian Frances Troiano song leader. Freshman and Sophomore reps to be chosen in fall. The group was hosted by the Agriculture Club with a later wiener roast after soft ball and tennis activities.

Carey Poppy Day Set By American Legion Auxiliary
Poppy Day will be May 25 in Carey sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Earl Green Unit 344 with Mrs. Jerome Weinandy as chairman. The red poppy honors those who gave their lives for America and funds support ill and needy veterans and their families, civic groups, and disaster relief. The May 1956 to May 1957 Poppy Fund records show donations to the VA Hospital, clothing for a veteran’s family, meals for workers, welfare assessments, and support to local agencies, totaling 542.56 dollars. Remember Poppy Day May 25.

Carey High School seniors will be honored May 28 at 8 PM as Larman Sherwood of Rotterdam NY delivers the commencement address. Blind since birth, Sherwood attended the Maryland School for the Blind and Cohoes Public High School, earned a BA in literature from Union College in 1934, and a master's from NY State College for Teachers in 1936. He lectures nationwide and travels about 50,000 miles annually.

Water Pressure Back To Normal Late This Week
Village manager George Dunn reported at the council meeting that the standpipe cleaning and painting will restore normal water pressure within days. Work kept pressure at 30 pounds to protect lines. past cleaning reached 40 pounds causing damage. Congress member Betts said he would pursue a new Carey post office. The council agreed to Crawford Townships fire protection offer of 800 dollars for one year from June 1957 to June 1958.

Seminary Rector Benedict Rubeck Celebrates Silver Jubilee
The Very Rev Benedict Rubeck OFM Conv rector of Our Lady of Carey Seminary will celebrate his silver jubilee with a Solemn High Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of Consolation Church at 10:30 a.m. Assisting are Rev Theodore Eickholtz deacon Rev Jochim Dunn sub deacon and Rev Hubert Kobunski. The sermon will be by Rev Richard Arlt. A breakfast follows in the school dining room. Father Benedict, a Marion native, entered the Franciscan Order in 1926 and was ordained in 1932. He has served Carey since 1936 and再 was first president of Cupertino College in Eaton Rapids, Michigan in 1949 before returning to Carey in 1951. He has a twin brother Louis and several sisters.
