Legion Members Meet for Services and Memorial Lunch

A large body of Legion members gathered at the Legion Hall on Sunday morning May 26 and attended services at Christ Lutheran Church at 10 30. Memorial Day Opening Slated for Carey Memorial Park Pool

The Carey Memorial Park Pool will open May 30 with Larry Gamel as manager and Miss Sharon Tong as lifeguard, assisted by Miss Mignon McChesney and Carol Snook. Improvements include new non slip deck paint and updated equipment funded by the Jaycees. A 15 minute break every two hours may be added, lessons begin in July with a $2 fee, six week length, three lessons weekly, and new adult classes. Junior and senior lifesaving taught free. Red Cross will send guards Mignon McChesney and Sharon Tong to Camp Limberlost Ind for two weeks in June for advanced lifeguard training.

Kiwanis Community Club Banquet Planned for June 3

The Carey Farmers' Community Club met in the Knights of Columbus hall with president Orville Cook. It was announced the Kiwanis-Community Club banquet will be Monday evening June 3 at the Homestead Restaurant. Refreshments were served by Walter Gottfried and Wesley Wonder. House Moved to New Lot by Local Couple

A two story house on National Lime and Stone Co property north of town was moved Tuesday afternoon to a lot on the east end of Brayton Street. Mr and Mrs Francis Ritter of Grove Street recently bought the property from Mrs Cam Harris. Ritter had partially dismantled the house to prepare for the move and plans to use it as rental property after restoration.

Memorial Day Parade and Service in Carey

Memorial Day will be observed in Carey with an annual parade formed at 9 a.m. on S Patterson Street near Findlay Street led by the American Legion, followed by services at Spring Grove Cemetery at 10 a.m. and then at St Marys Cemetery. The Carey High School Band Boy Scouts Girl Scouts veterans and other groups will participate. Reverend Walter Marks will give the address at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Bert Azzar reported to Seneca county sheriff's department that Club Azzar in Alvada was broken into during the weekend. Deputy Sheriff Joseph Huffman investigated the incident. On April 21 the club was entered and about $25 was taken.

The Carey High School auditorium hosted the annual Award Day with band processional led by Walter Bixler and invocation by Rev. Richard L. Hughes Jr. Students earned test certificates and scholarships across numerous fields, with editors and valedictorians named. Baccalaureate Service Honors Carey High’s 71st Graduates

Nearly 500 people gathered in the Carey High School auditorium for baccalaureate honoring 55 members of the 71st graduating class. Music by Vincent Brown, seniors escorted by six juniors and faculty, Our Lady of Consolation choir directed by C. Robert Stombaugh performed two anthems, and Rev. Fire damages alley storage near Twinings Tavern

Firefighters answered a 9 am blaze in the alley behind Twinings Tavern in Carey. Debris flames leaped from a large drum set among tar paper and lumber beside the Carey Farm Bureau storage building. Fireman Paul F Pahl said flames appeared above the roof as crews arrived. the incinerator serves two or three businesses and a nighttime outbreak could have been disastrous.

Carey Men Tour Open House at Enrico Fermi Plant

Raymond Jacobs and Dale Weaver visited the Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant under construction seven miles north of Monroe Michigan. They collected brochures detailing a breeder reactor designed by Atomic Power Development Associates and construction started last Aug 8 by Power Reactor Development Co. Detroit Edison Co will own and operate the turbine generator. The plant aims to produce heat for steam power and generate more nuclear fuel than it consumes. The concrete pit, dome, and shell work are described with dimensions and progress observations. The plant is touted as the world’s largest commercial breeder reactor with test operations expected in December 1959.
