Pilgrims Gather for Solemn Shrine Pilgrimage in 1935

More than 2 000 pilgrims from Shelby Crestline Galion Bucyrus and nearby towns joined processions at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Parishes led by banners carried Litany invocations while children and choir followed in rosary recitals and hymns. May crowning occurred and new members joined the Confraternity. Solemn Mass at 9 30 am and relic blessing at 2 30 pm marked the events with concluding benediction and upcoming novena.

Three Bellville youths in Route 23 crash near Carey

Ed Houck Sam Baille and Mike Vonick aged 17 to 20 from Bellville Michigan were in a high speed wreck five miles north of Carey on Route 23 at 4 00 this morning. The car struck a telephone pole shearing it off 20 feet high and two occupants were thrown through the windshield. Houck was pinned beneath the overturned vehicle Baillo was thrown about ten feet. They were taken to Fostoria hospital with serious injuries. Arend family alerted night police Mullholand and Briggs who investigated the mishap.

Deputies Pursue Boy Taken From Kirksville Missouri

Deputy Sheriff Paul Frey of Upper Sandusky and Marshal Robert O Connor of Carey traveled to Kirksville Missouri to take into custody Paul De Amicis son of Mr and Mrs Benny De Amicis of East Findlay Street. The youth had been picked up by police there and had often left home and was under juvenile court observation. The De Amicis home was the scene of a stabbing affray over three weeks ago.

Lois 8 daughter of Mr and Mrs Perl Snook of Frederick street submitted to a serious operation Monday forenoon at Findlay Home and Hospital. Lois has been very ill for several weeks with complications following scarlet fever.

Carey High School Sets 1935 Commencement Schedule

Commencement for the class of 1935 will begin Sunday evening May 26 with a baccalaureate service at the Methodist church. Rev N W Sager will preach for the graduating class and faculty. Commencement takes place Tuesday evening May 28 at the high school auditorium with Dean Clyde Hissong from Bowling Green delivering the address. Admission is free with reserved seats for family and friends. The baccalaureate program lists organ preludes, scripture, sermons, and prayers. The senior class play Lucky Dollars will be shown Friday evening May 24 at the high school auditorium with cast members named in the program.

Saturday Poppy Day Urges Wear a Red Flower for War Dead

The community is urged to wear a poppy on Saturday May 25 to honor World War I dead and to donate to war veterans and dependents. Boy Scouts Troops 22 and 29 will canvass neighborhoods and streets to collect contributions funding disabled veterans.

Carey Moose Visit Leads to Degree Initiation at Fostoria Lodge

Carey Moose members visited the Fostoria lodge on Sunday as 18 candidates received the first degree. A party and dance planned for Thursday night was postponed indefinitely. On Monday evening June 3 a large class will be initiated at Findlay. All Carey lodge members are expected to attend the trip.

Kiwanians Attend District Convention in Port Clinton

Ten members of the local Kiwanis club joined about 200 Northwestern Ohio delegates in Port Clinton for the district convention at United Brethren church. Lieut. Governor Claude Bronson spoke as a principal address and a radio talk by Dr. William J. Carrington was heard. Local participants included W. G. Riley and L. E Treece among others.
