Carey IGA to Open After Major Remodeling

Remodeling at the Carey IGA near completion with a 3:30 ribbon cutting ahead of doors opening at 9 p.m. The store, formerly Scheck's Market, features rough sawn cedar exterior, new interior in colonial decor, seamless flooring, new lighting and ceiling, repaved parking, and remodeled meat and produce rooms including a new freezer.

Jr Spaders Present Book To Library In Carey

On Friday May 16 the Jr Spaders affiliated with 4H presented a gardening book to the Dorcas Carey Public Library. Jean Nye secretary introduced the gift to librarian Mrs Herbert Lortz as several members attended.

Three Vehicle Accidents Reported by Police

Police logs list three incidents. Ester Gallaway on Route 2 had $40 damage when a 68 Ford driven by Leo Beagle struck her door on West Findlay Street at 10 40 a m May 8 as the door opened. Beagle’s car sustained $25 damage. A rear collision on Glenn Avenue at 11 40 p m May 11 involved Gary Haford backing a 64 Chevy and Roy Coppler in a 66 Chevy. Haford’s car had $85 damage. On N Vance Street near AC and Y railroad tracks at 10 a m May 17 John Kastriba slowed a 69 Plymouth and was rear ended by Bernadine Depinet in a 67 Mercury. Kastriba’s car suffered no damage and Depinet’s car had $380 damage.

Mark Williams Installed Carey DeMolay Leader in Ceremony

Carey DeMolay held its second installation since December as Mark Williams became Master Councilor succeeding John Sparks. About 150 Masonics and DeMolays attended at the Carey Masonic Temple while officers were sworn in by Dave Troup. Awards and RD honors followed, with mothers honored and a post ceremony reception hosted by the DeMolays.

Dwight Ruehlen Receives Army Promotion in Vietnam

Dwight E Ruhlen aged 23 son of Harold L Ruhlen of Nevada Ohio was promoted to specialist four on April 2 while serving with the 4th Infantry Division near Pleiku Vietnam as a helicopter repairman His wife Rita resides at 401 West Street Carey.

Carey Junior Spaders Meet May Sixteenth 1969

The Carey Junior Spaders met May 16 1969 with Mrs Tewell reviewing our books. Jean Nye gave a garden book to Carey Public Library. Next meeting is June 6 after school at Mrs Tewell’s. Memorial Day Parade starts 9 p m Friday May 30 in front of Dorcas Carey Public Library.

Julia Karg Dies Suddenly In Home Accident

Renee Karg, daughter of Mr and Mrs J John Albert Karg, was born April 1959 and died May 15 1969 in an accident at her home in Upper Sandusky Ohio She was in fourth grade at Salem Building and sang in the Junior Choir of Christ Lutheran Church She is survived by her parents sisters Sharon Jean Lou Ann and Daniel Leland two nieces grandparents Mr and Mrs Algie Hackney Keokee Va and Mr Oscar Karg South of Carey Pallbearers were Robert Hecker Norman Nye Leonard Atkins Donald Ulrich Donald Stover Hansel Caudill Bristoll Funeral Home handled arrangements and burial was May 17 1969 in Spring Grove Cemetery

Mailbox Improvement Week Declared For Rural Routes

The Post Office Department designates a May week for rural patrons to inspect and improve mailboxes. May 24 marks the week to ensure receptacles protect mail from weather, look neat, be conveniently located, and safe to use. Rural carriers report most boxes on 650 daily served are properly maintained with few detractors. When painting or lettering, patrons should place their name on the side facing the carrier.

The JayCé&Ettes monthly meeting at the Gas Office place had 15 members present. Evelyn Long and two assistants from the American Cancer chapter presented a viewing on cancers. Officers for the 69-70 year were elected: President Rosie Dible, Vice President Kathryn Sullenberger, Secretary Penny Muliholand, Treasurer Ken Marshall. Retiring officers were President Barb Jacob, Vice-President Janet Hunter, Secretary Karen Bame, Treasurer Sara Gier.

Poppy Queen Chosen By American Legion Unit

Vivian Oiler, six, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Colby Oiler, selected Poppy Queen by the Earl Green Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. She will reign during Poppy Days May 23 and 24. The piece explains poppy symbolism and uses, detailing how proceeds fund veteran rehabilitation, child welfare, and scholarships.

Weather Delays Garey Derby Postponed Again

Weather again postpones the Garey Sportsman's Association Fishing Derby pushing the event to this coming Sunday May 25. The postponement marks the second time weather has delayed the fishing derby.

Drivers Ed and typing courses offered at Carey High School

Carey High School offers Drivers Ed this summer from June 16 to July 3 with 214 hours of classroom work and after class driving time. A half credit is awarded and no student cost, adults pay 25 dollars. Personal typing runs June 9 to July 2 for three hours daily with one fourth credit. 12 dollars course fee and four dollars due at registration. Requires 15 signups. register by May 29.
