Senior Class Play Growing Pains at High School

The senior class presents Growing Pains a comedy of adolescence directed by Miss Helen Smith on Friday May 21 at 615 pm in the high school auditorium admission 20 and 30 cents The play follows George Terry and neighborhood kids through ado adolescence with a bright hopeful ending The baccalaureate service is set for Sunday May 23 at the Methodist Episcopal church with organ preludes readings and a sermon by Rev Paul R Clouser and Rev Marion Tinsler leading the service.

Award Presented to Eleanor McChesney at Central High

Mr and Mrs S W McChesney Miss Eleanor McChesney Mrs May belle Barnard Samuel McChesney III and Mr and Mrs C G Laird went to Columbus for the certificate of award recognizing Miss Eleanor’s high standing in the estate scholarship test held April 24. Gov Martin L Davey presented it at Central High School. The group then dined at the Neil House.

Mother's Evening Planned by Pythian Sisters Group

After the regular meeting this Thursday the Pythian Sisters invite members to bring their mothers for a social hour led by a birthday committee. Friends are urged to attend tonight.

Father Edward Collet O M C will celebrate his First Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday May 28 in the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Consolation. Seven Deacons to Be Ordained at Toledo Cathedral

Bishop Karl J. Alter will ordain seven deacons from Our Lady of Carey Seminary to priests at 9:00 a.m. Saturday May 22 in the Cathedral of St Francis de Sales Toledo. The ordination rites include laying on of hands anointing with chrism and giving the chalice and paten. Several first Masses will be celebrated in Michigan Ohio and Illinois by Fathers from Carey Seminary and related parishes.

Carey High School Scholarship Team Excels At Bowling Green

Carey high school scholars scored strongly at Bowling Green with 23 team members out of 30. Mary Elizabeth Haford won first in small schools English 10th year. Betty Hamlet second in 9th year English. John Jacoby and Donald Wenner placed fifth and seventh in American History. State results gave Haford fourth in small schools. honorable mentions went to Hayman, Hamlet, Ziebarth, and Krout. Carey 8th graders scored 170 of 200 to place first among 62 entrants. Vaughn and Bernard followed with 161 and 156. Top 25 percent included Peirce Gottfried Ziebarth Byers Burson Borer Turnbell Corron Smith Ruffing Garn Capell Faires England and Wenner. Eleanor McChesney and Joseph Vaughn earned honorable mention at state level for top 1 percent, invited to Columbus. State summaries show Carey pupils outpaced state averages in Arithmetic English Science and History.

Joseph Vaughn and his parents traveled to Columbus with Sister M. Winifred to receive an honor certificate. He ranked in the top one percent of 22 337 pupils on the eighth grade state test. Our Lady of Consolation pupils enjoyed a matinee of Romeo and Juliet at the Strand.
