Floral Garden Surprise at Junior Class Event

The junior class hosted a themed dining room garden on Tuesday May 11 at 6 30 pm for seniors and guests. Waitresses in flowered dresses served a menu with floral names and edible petals while Spackey acted as toast mistress and students delivered toasts and class prophecies.

Wyandot County WPA Projects Modernize Athletic Field

On Monday WPA workers began building wooden bleachers at Harpster athletic field to seat 600 and promote activity. The project uses 1302 labor and 357 materials funded with 902 sponsor, plus 7628 labor and 781 materials forUpper Sandusky walks. Abutments and bridge work over Baughman Run was completed with 991 WPA funds and 626 sponsor.

Gospel Tent Meeting Led by Rev Frank Roddy in Marion

A gospel tent meeting opens Tuesday evening May 18 at 7 30 on the city lot W North Street led by Rev Frank Roddy of Marion. Roddy, converted in Oklahoma, has preached since boyhood with clear sermons. Each service features special singing and accordion and harp music. Eleanor McChesney to Receive State Education Award

Eleanor McChesney, daughter of Mr and Mrs S W McChesney, was notified by the state department of education that she placed high on the April 24 state test. She is invited to Columbus to receive the certificate of Award at Central High School on Saturday May 15 at 10 am, with parents and teachers invited.

Henry's Grocery Installs Frigidaire Meat Display

Henry's Grocery added an eight foot refrigerated meat display case on Tuesday afternoon. The Frigidaire unit was purchased through local dealer J. F. Dible, who also handled installation.

The 1937 Caryatid yearbook will be ready around May 20 and marks the 50th commencement. It spans 66 pages with photos and school year memories, features a leather-like cover and celluloid spiral binding, and includes a 50-year graduates list. Reserve copies through senior class members as print run is limited.

Poppy Patches at the Legion Sale Bring Hope

A hospital poppy workshop shows veterans and a mentally ill man crafting the flowers in seven steps. Two hundred poppies mark a productive day as workers help fund glasses, clothes, and care for families. The local American Legion Auxiliary plans the annual poppy sale on Saturday May 29.

The Carey 4-H club held its season kickoff on Wednesday May 12 at 2 pm in Carey High School. Miss Martha Derr presided as former president introduced adviser Mrs Forest Myers and assistant leader Miss Margaret Wenzinger. Membership blanks were signed and officers will be elected at the next meeting Saturday at 7 pm in the home economics room.

Negroes Take Pants From Bradley's Tailor Shop

Two men entered Bradley's tailor shop last Thursday forenoon and took two pairs of pants left by Russell Blue for cleaning. One suspect, Hiram Blue, a former Gulf hotel porter, fled toward the C and O line with the pants. Marshal O Connor detained Blue in the tramp room and later found he had escaped through a pried window, claiming ignorance of the other man or the theft.

Clergy Delegates to Ohio Lutheran Synod Meeting

Rev Paul R Clouser and lay delegate Truman Romig of Christ Lutheran will attend the annual Synod of Ohio gathering in Van Wert next week. About 400 delegates will meet at St. Mark's Church under President Rev Joseph Sittler D D. The synod serves 200 parishes and 279 congregations with 89 454 baptized members.

First trans Pacific airmail reaches Carey post office

W G Bradley reports the first trans Pacific airmail through Carey after a letter from Lieut M M Bradley of the U S 3S Colorado mailed April 26. The China Clipper carried the letter to the United States and it was routed to Ohio. Bradley to return to Lakehurst May 28 en route to San Francisco, then East via Carey. He is reassigned to a German airship observation trip, canceled by last week’s tragedy.

Boys 4-H Club Meeting Planned in Carey Schools

A Carey area 4-H club for boys aged 10 to 20 will form with a first meeting on Thursday May 13 at 8 pm in the high school agriculture room. Eligibility includes boys from outside the district and those who have left school if capable of 4-H projects.

Greenhouse displays potted plants in office window

The display of potted plants in the board of affairs office window came courtesy of Gust I Wunderlin proprietor of the Carey Greenhouses. The firm says its stock is perhaps the largest in the history of the greenhouses and this year’s sales exceed the average.
