City Council: Postpones curfew ordinance to next meeting

City officials led by Mayor Angus discussed a curfew issue after citizen petitions. A sidewalk construction resolution passed after suspension of rules. The council authorized buying 1000 paving bricks from S. A. Chesebrough at one cent each as part of plant vault work and approved related bills totaling small sums.

Carey Suffered Defeat in Buckeye League Game

Carey lost to Findlay Buckeye League team 8 to 20 on Sunday afternoon. Donald Donelson played for Findlay amid many errors and disputes with the umpire. Carey will face Tiffin next Sunday at Wegner's park.

Grades Arrived for Carrier Candidates on Route 3

Seventeen men who took the Carey route 3 carrier examination earlier months ago received their grades this week. Bert Hudson averaged 88 plus, GC M Steen 88, and Fred Shuman 85 plus. Appointment pending.

Sunday School Convention to be Held at Reformed Church

The first Sunday school convention under Big Spring and Seneca townships will meet at the Reformed church in McCutchenville on Sunday May 30 at 7 30 p m. Engineer Saves Child on Rail Crossing in Ohio

Martin Garvey, engineer on an east bound Northwestern Ohio passenger train, stopped the train to save Merida Johnston a three year old from West Main street crossing. This marks his third such life saving act in two weeks. the boy’s grateful father presented a meerschaum pipe to the rescuer.

Commencement Exercises of the Class of 1915

The 1915 class will hold exercises at the Methodist church on Thursday evening May 20. The program includes songs, quartets, many orations such as Which Is the Greater Influence Heredity or Environment and The Miracle of Science, plus class history and diplomas. Rev J W Shock will give the benediction, Ohio Wesleyan Varsity Quartet will provide music, tickets at Swings Drug Store for 8 o’clock show.

High School Rivalry Lets Sophomores Seize Colors

Carey plans weekly concerts funded by business men and city council funding of 5.00 dollars per week. The Thursday evening concert is the regular night with the opening performance on Thursday June 8. The band is praised as a fine organization this year and promises quality music.

The United Evangelical Church group met Tuesday evening with Mrs Elza Jacoby leading the lesson The Child at Worship Mrs Jacoby also presented a vocal solo The next meeting is set for June 15 at the church.

Chautauqua Plans Set for August in Local Center

The Chautauqua will run six days from Saturday August 28 to Thursday September 2 with three meetings daily. The forenoon features include The Junior Chautauqua and Playground games and stories at 3 30 pm. Richmond Payson Hobson will lecture Sunday night. nine lecturers are listed with varied programs and notable musical features. A Lincoln Chautauqua representative will visit on the 27th to organize.

Missionary Society Meeting and Tea at Mrs Wonder

The Woman's Missionary Society of the United Brethren church held a regular meeting and tea last Wednesday at Mrs. Joseph F. Wonder's home. Mrs. Samantha Goodmiller read Isaiah chapter sixty and the group studied The Child in the Midst. Delegates Mrs. J. W. Shock and Mrs. J. L. Doty were chosen for the Findlay convention this week.

Memorial Sermon for Grand Army of the Republic

The annual memorial sermon will be preached next Sunday May 23 at the Lutheran church. Rev E Luther Spaid will preach with choir music. Service begins at 10 15 a m. All soldiers of all wars are invited to attend assembled at the G A R hall at 9 30 a m for a procession to the church.
