Porcelain Products Inc will relocate its headquarters from Findlay to Carey. EF M Edwards vice president and superintendent says a decision this week will determine if offices join a new building beside the plant or if the current office is remodeled. All departments will move and the Findlay office will be disposed of.
Neighbors and Legion members gathered at the Kesslers north of Carey to plow and plant crops using about 20 tractors. The day included a dinner by the Auxiliary while Joseph Kessler recovers from severe injuries after being thrown from a tractor on April 30.
F D Jackson owner of the Jackson Store in Carey has accepted a district supervisor role with the National Federation of Independent Business. He cites data showing small towns lose business volume and warns of impacts on community life. Jackson says spending out of town reduces value by 32 percent and plans shoe fittings Wednesday and Saturday evenings until May 27 then Fridays thereafter.
Salem High School will hold its commencement on May 25 at 8 p.m in the school auditorium with valedictorian Terry Gottfried and salutatorian Louis Hoepf. Rev LeRoy Sarver will deliver the baccalaureate sermon May 22 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.
A World War remembrance call urges Americans to wear a red Poppy on May 28 to honor fallen service members and support living veterans supported by American Legion auxiliary fundraisers. It emphasizes rekindling patriotism and resilience for the nation’s future.
The Very Rev Percy F Rex Dean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Cleveland since 1953 will address Carey High School at the 69th annual commencement Tuesday evening May 24 in the new auditorium. Rex a Norristown native and Muhlenberg Yale graduate has served parishes in New England and New York and held diverse social and church roles in Ohio. He is married with three children and five grandchildren, with hobbies including photography stamps and fishing.
Twin goslings were born Sunday noon on the Dible farm northeast of Carey after Mrs Dible and her 10-year-old son Stephen heard a commotion. They found one gosling protruding from the eggshell and later freed a second, both initially with defects but later reported eating and normal. The egg size gave no hint of twins.
Everett T Holt a local mail carrier on route 1 retired as of April 1. He and his wife sold their modern bunk home west of Carey on Route 15 to Mr and Mrs VL Ruffing of Lake Street. The Ruffings take possession by July. The Holt couple left Saturday for Florida to seek a new home.
From McCutcherille School News the Charles Beis family shows a strong attendance record. Donna and Della are seniors with 11 years of perfect attendance each, Helen Louse a sophomore with 9 years, and Bobby and Betty with 6 years and 5 years of perfect attendance respectively. The family totals 46 school years with 41 years of perfect attendance.
The Goodwill truck will be in Carey Thursday and Friday May 26 and 27. Call Mrs. Lester Smiley at 6 3761 if you would like to have the truck stop.
The Carey elementary and high schools host Award Day on Friday May 20. Elementary awards include scholarship perfect attendance handwriting and various contests with a morning ceremony at 9 30 in the auditorium. High school ceremonies begin at 2 pm featuring scholarships awards tests and special recognitions.
A joint concert by 140 players from Upper Sandusky and Carey High School Bands showcased strong music and public relations benefits. After a three hour rehearsal, a potluck supper, hosting by Carey musicians, and a social hour followed the performance with Stars and Stripes Forever as the encore.
Linda Wise daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifford Wise won the Carey High School Courtesy Award for the past week. She is an 8th grade student in the Carey High School Band and the 7th and 8th grade girls chorus. Her hobbies include stamp collecting piano playing and solo work. Continued on page 8.
The Carey village council met Monday night and heard the mayor report, approved two ordinances and resolutions, and discussed police promotion plans. Mayor Wagner noted April receipts totaling 716.99 with funds allocated to village, county, state, sheriff, physician, and constable.
Next Saturday May 21 Our Lady of Consolation School will host a registration from 1 to 4 pm for children entering first grade in September. Parents may register without bringing the child but should consider doing so. children must be 6 by November 30, 1955.
Season swimming tickets available any time in the clerk auditor’s office at the municipal building. Prices: Juniors four dollars, adults six dollars, families two dollars per member.
Carey merchants announce store hours will close Wednesdays and open Fridays. Memorial Day observance in Carey on Monday May 30 includes parade at 930 am from Pat terson Street to Spring Grove Cemetery with services by Rev Nicholas Rol ling and services at St Marys Cemetery. Legion to provide transportation. Legionnaires to attend service at Our Lady of Consolation Church on May 29 with pancake breakfast and grave flag placement.
On Monday evening May 23 a band information and instrument display will be held in the Carey High School Band Room. The event targets parents of children who may enroll as beginners in the instrumental music department summer program, which runs six weeks from July 18 to August 26. Arthur Bean of Tiffin will join Mr Hawk to discuss the program, rental options, and answer questions, with no obligation to rent or buy.
Kiwanis Club hosted the Carey Farmers Community Club banquet in Gibbons dining room with 52 attendees. Rev Hilliard Camp, sociology and Bible professor at Findlay College, spoke on materialism versus joy after touring Europe and the Holy Land.
Mrs Loren Pace attends a two day institute in Springfield on May 12 and 13 for Girl Scout council members. The event welcomes present and prospective neighborhood and district chairmen, field committee chairmen, and members involved in organizing neighborhood associations.
Wyandot County raised 11093.89 to fight infantile paralysis in January, led by Upper Sandusky director Charles Reed Jr. The figure tops last year’s 10196.87 as funds support local care and national research, with half kept locally for patient aid and emergencies.
Nelson McLarkey Jr a Bowling Green State University student participated in the 1955 Pershing Rifles regimental drill meet in Cincinnati He is a son of Mr and Mrs Nelson McLarkey of Carey The Pershing Rifles originated at the University of Nebraska in 1891 and have grown through the ROTC system across universities.
District Superintendent John R Cheney of Toledo will open the spring session of the Toledo District Conference at 3 p m Sunday in First Methodist Church Fostoria. The session will close with consecration of local preachers elected by the Conference. Several members of First Church Carey are planning to attend.
Deadline for the Soroptimist Club nursing scholarship is June 1. Senior girls should write an application letter and present it to Miss Jennie Steen Mrs. Ruby Criger Mrs. F. D. Jackson or Mrs. Clyde Jenkins at once.
Carey Jaycees held a meeting with 68 attendees including Jaycees and guests. A May shrimp supper recap, Europe Asia Africa photos, a summer fireplace upgrade, and a bronze memorial plaque were announced. Don Wilson new Jaycee president. June installation banquet planned.
