Sandra Gunther daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Gunther 609 W Findlay Street tops Carey High School graduating class of 1955 with a remarkable 4 point average. She is active in Y Teens Future Homemakers of America Annual staff Girls Athletic Association National Honor Society Scholarship team class plays band orchestra chorus Latin Club Nutshell staff and more. Deanna Greer will be salutatorian with a 387 average and participates in Future Homemakers of America Annual staff Girls Athletic Association Scholarship team class plays Girls State Latin Club band orchestra chorus and other activities.

Mrs Ferdinand Williams was elected president of the JayCeeJays at a Monday evening meeting at Mrs Ralph Pratt's home. Other officers named were Vice president Mrs Eugene Laube secretary Mrs Robert Gibson and treasurer Mrs C J Beardsley. Retiring officers include President Mrs Paul A Burson and secretary Mrs Don Wilson among others. The group reported $400 from the play Mr Barry's Etchings and planned donations to Wyandot Medical Society Auxiliary Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary and a cancer fund.

Carey School Tax Rate Falls Below Ohio Averages

A State Department of Taxation and Ohio Education Association report shows the Carey Exempted Village School District’s tax rates for school purposes are well below the state averages for exempted village districts. The Carey district reports operating expenses and all school purposes at 10.90 and 13.40 mills respectively, compared with state norms.

Week’s Municipal Court cases listed for six defendants

Mayor G C Wagner handled six cases. Donald Lucas 46 of Delaware paid 10 fine and 6.35 costs for following too closely. Clifford J Bowers 62 of Forest charged with reckless operation and intoxication fined 25 and 10.60 costs, 10 days jail. John Heckathorn of Forest cited for no dog license 10 and 4.60 costs. Charles C Brotton 31 of Manchester Kentucky fined 10 and 8.60 costs for reckless operation. Paul Vaughn 16 cited for speeding 85 and 8.60 costs. J A Vaughn appeared for him. George Corron paid 10 and 8.60 costs for his son Richard 17 charged with reckless operation.

Cars For Trip To Ball Game For Carey Students

Carey school district students in grades 6 through 12 will tour a major league game as guests of the Cleveland Indians and the Carey Kiwanis Club. The caravan is set for June 9 when the Indians face the Boston Red Sox. Kiwanis needs 14 cars and seeks 10 more volunteers to provide autos.

Benton Peery Family Attends Martinsville Wedding

De and Mrs. T. Benton Peery and daughter Patsy will attend the wedding of Mrs. Peerys nephew Larry Lee Rhonemus of Martinsville to Miss Eileen Marie Donovan of Delaware. The ceremony takes place at West Berlin Presbyterian Church Delaware followed by a reception at the Taes home.

G A A Hitpin Champions Crowned By Sophomores

The Sophomore hitpin team won the G A A championship by defeating the Freshmen Juniors and Seniors. Class rosters list Sophomores Juniors Seniors and Freshmen with named members. The badminton tournament is ongoing with a two week crowning window. The annual G A A banquet is set for May 19 at 3 30 p m at Christ Lutheran Church. Phyllis Beckley a Junior received the Carey High School Courtesy Award and plans to study education at Bowling Green State University after graduation.

Senior Y Teen Elects 1955 Officers at May Candlelight

The senior Y Teen girls elected officers for next year during a candlelight ceremony on May 2 1955 at the high school. The elected officers are President Sara Sparks Vice President Phyllis Beckley Secretary Sandra Hill Treasurer Edith Coldiron Religious Chairman Diane Hotelling and Scrapbook Chairman Connie Hill. The Juniors plan a farewell party for the Seniors on May 16.

Mrs E Ziebarth of the American Mothers Committee and Ohio Mothers Committee traveled to New York for a Waldorf Astoria luncheon honoring Lavina Christiansen Fugal of Pleasant Grove Utah, American Mother of 1955. Steer Killed by Truck Near Upper Sandusky

Willis Binan of route 4 Upper Sandusky owned the steer killed when it walked into a northbound truck driven by Robert Linton of Norwalk four miles north of Upper Sandusky at 1 15 am Friday. The truck front was damaged. Sheriff W Dean McAllister led the investigation from his office.

Wrecks Destroy Carey Freight Route and Delays Co Industry

A Chesapeake and Ohio freight wreck near Carey involved 18 of 45 cars after two heavy counterweights failed through a gondola floor. The train carried high class merchandise from Charleston to Stamford, and damage stretched along tracks, with a lengthy cleanup and partial service disruption on multiple lines.

Three Car Collision Near C O Railroad Crossing

A three car wreck near the C and O railroad crossing injures no one reported. Cars driven by John J Meszaros of Lincoln Park Michigan Donald Mr Lucas of Delaware and Wilbur L Thomas were northbound. Sheriff V Dean McAllister cited Mr Lucas who appeared before Mayor G C Wagner and was fined ten dollars plus costs for not having his vehicle under control.

Escapes Injury In One Car Mishap

Robert Lee Emmons of W South Street escaped injury at 1 28 p m Wednesday May 4 when the 1951 Buick sedan he was driving apparently went out of control on Route 23 north of the Crawford bridge. Extensive damage followed to the car fence posts a gate a telephone pole and five circuits, Sheriff V Dean McAllister reports.
