Memorial Day Services Set for Spring Grove Cemetery

The Rev Nicholas Roling OFM Conv of Our Lady of Carey Seminary will deliver the Memorial Day address Monday May 30 at Spring Grove Cemetery. The observance begins at 9 30 a m with a parade forming at Findlay and Patterson Streets and marching to the cemetery. After services at Spring Grove the procession will move to St Marys Cemetery for further services. Graves of veterans were decorated Sunday by the American Legion which sponsors the event.

Carey Co op paintings two art exhibit runner up

Mrs. W. W. Clark's oil Carey Co op won second place at the Findlay Art League's 8th annual exhibition with judge Dr. John T. Carey of Bowling Green State University. The show hung over 250 paintings with more than 480 visitors, the largest attendance to date.

Dolomite Officers Re-Elected at Wyandot Dolomite Meeting

At the annual Wyandot Dolomite board meeting held north of Carey on May 17, all officers were re-elected. Names include President John Grimm Findlay and Secretary Ed Lybarger Findlay. Harold Wolfe of Delphos retired as manager for another year.

Injury to Carey High pupil Wisner in school accident

Robert Wisner son of Mr and Mrs J W Wisner an eighth grader at Carey High School injured his right hand in an unusual incident at school on Wednesday of last week. He dislocated the knuckle at the base of his middle finger and broke a bone in the back of the hand and may not use the hand for about three weeks. He previously fractured two bones in his little finger last year after a fall on a class picnic.

Sally Jaster, a Heidelberg College senior, will start June 13 training to become Higbee Co toy department supervisor in Cleveland. She earned a BA and joins Heidelberg’s Senior Honorary, with four year average 2.5. Her mother to end duties at Bowling Green state house, then hosts at Lakeside Hotel this summer.

Humbert Promoted Within Travelers Insurance Office

Robert Humbert, after two years in the Indianapolis Travelers Insurance office, receives a promotion to the Milwaukee office and begins duties there this Wednesday. He and his wife Jeanne moved to Milwaukee Monday and lack a permanent address. Jeanne Humbert has worked in the Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis for nearly four years and was recently promoted to secretary. Humbert is the son of William Humbert of Findlay Street. Jeanne’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. W R Allen of Findlay Street.

Helicopter Lands at Crawford Following Air Show Return

A helicopter from the Ohio National Guard Airwing landed in the meadow behind Mrs S W McChesney’s garage at Crawford on Saturday afternoon. Capt Ledostack piloted with Sgt Austin as a passenger returning from the Toledo air show to their bases. Sam McChesney, a National Guard member and Linworth helicopter mechanic, invited them in for light refreshments while the motor cooled.

Pupils Visit Toledo Zoo From Colonel Crawford School

Porcelain To Erect Modern Office Building Here

Porcelain Provifcts Inc will erect a two story concrete block building with a brick front on the former parking lot site. The 48 by 80 foot structure will house general offices moved from Findlay and local offices, with the current office space repurposed. Planning was approved at a Findlay board meeting and plans submitted to the architect.

Traffic Mishaps Cause Major Damage in Ohio Routes

Sheriff reports extensive damage to two cars in a collision 62 miles northeast of Carey on Route 509 Sunday evening. Drivers Robert Emmons of Carey and Billy Dodds of Mount Blanchard injured lightly. On Saturday Carey marks Memorial Poppy Day with American Legion Auxiliary volunteers selling veteran-made poppies. 55 Seniors Receive Diplomas at Carey High School

Carey High School awarded diplomas to 55 seniors as a capacity crowd filled the new auditorium. The 69th graduating class included 95 seniors, and Very Rev. Percy F. Rex of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland delivered a forceful address on Christian living with personal experiences and humor.

Carey stores set new hours aimed at longer Sunday openings

Carey businessmen approved a plan to extend hours with most stores opening Friday May 27 until 10 p.m. and closing Wednesdays at noon June 1. The vote 16 to 4 also enacted all day Thursday openings and 6 p.m. Saturday closings with some stores staying open Friday and Saturday nights. Some stores will keep existing hours Wednesday and Saturday nights.
