Lieutenant Logsdon Freed From German Captivity

Mr and Mrs Wilfrid L Logsdon Route 2 Uarey received telegrams from the adjutant general in Washington that their son First Lieutenant James R Logsdon had been released as a prisoner of war and returned to military control. He was reported missing in action in Italy November 5 and captured in December 1944. he served as a B 26 fighter bomber pilot arriving overseas in July 1944.

Death of Lt Donald Hendricks on Iwo Jima

A letter to Mr and Mrs Hendricks from Lt Richard A Tilghman recounts Donald Hendricks death on March 10 during a tank attack on Iwo Jima. Tilghman describes their close friendship in the 5th division paratroops and notes Hendricks died swiftly after being hit by a sniper bullet. He recalls burial prayers and praises Hendricks leadership and respect among his platoon.

Lakeland Club Reorganizes at Public Meeting

Carey Students Lead Classes at Tiffin University

Two Carey students topped their two-year courses at Tiffin University with the highest averages. Virginia Kurtz led executive secretarial studies with 95.6 and a $10 prize, while Nionald Long led accounting with 9.5 and a $15 prize. Both earned top marks at graduation held last Thursday. Kurtz will join the Ohio civil service in Columbus June 1.

War Bond Show Premieres May 24 at Carey Theatre

On Thursday May 24 at 8 39 p m a gala event will be held at the New Carey Theatre featuring a premier showing of National Velvet in Technicolor starring Mickey Rooney. Admission requires buying a war bond, with bonds available from 25 to 1000 in series E and higher in other series. The regular Thursday performance is cancelled for this War Bond Show. Leo T Jones announces the drive and urges patrons to purchase bonds at the theatre.

Son Robert Hayman to return to Coast Guard post

Lt Robert GQ Hayman will report back to Mountain Home Air Base Idaho after a 10 day leave spent with his parents Mr and Mrs Hugh Hayman and grandmother Mrs Jeohr Twining Bishapeg. He is with the Coast Guard at Georgetown St and will return there next Sunday after the leave.

Pfc David H Stansbery of Findlay Ohio husband of Francanna M Stansbery receives Bronze Star consideration for heroic actions near Mannheim Germany with the 44th Infantry Division 7th Army in World War II He exposed himself to enemy fire to direct and deliver counter fire while wounded and refused evacuation continuing to lead his platoon to seize the objective. Reports note his enlistment in 1943 and deployment overseas in 1944 with a machine runner role.

Local lunchroom changes hands on S Vance and Glen Avenues

7th War Loan Starts In Carey

Christ Lutheran Church Confirms 13 Youths on May 20

The rite of confirmation will be administered to 13 young people at Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday May 20 during the 10 30 am worship. Rev Wade H M Koons will preach on Confirm Your Faith.
