Rosemary Book reports on the high school senior and junior banquet held in the high school auditorium with a Spanish theme. Fredric Snobarger acted as toastmaster, Joyd Hill delivered the senior reply, and Tommy Houser's orchestra provided dancing music.
A newspaper clipping notes that Sgt Virgil Orians received the Bronze Star on January 2 for heroism in Europe. The item lists the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, European Theater ribbon with three stars, and Presidential Unit Citation, along with related memorabilia and a Turkish cigarette packet.
The India lace industrial project of the Women’s Missionary Society will be presented at the opening service of Christ Lutheran Sunday School next Sunday. The Mary Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will hold a social meeting Monday evening at 8 at Mrs Martha Sponsler Spensler home on W Findlay Street. Hostesses will be Mrs Sponsler Mrs George Spyder Mrs Kenneth Knowlton and Mrs Dean Powell.
The Forum class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Friday evening May 18 at 8 oclock. Mrs John Byers hosts at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Clarence Thome with Mrs Ben Hosler and Mrs Max Eimas assisting hosts.

Mr and Mrs Wilfrid L Logsdon Route 2 Uarey received telegrams from the adjutant general in Washington that their son First Lieutenant James R Logsdon had been released as a prisoner of war and returned to military control. He was reported missing in action in Italy November 5 and captured in December 1944. he served as a B 26 fighter bomber pilot arriving overseas in July 1944.
A letter to Mr and Mrs Hendricks from Lt Richard A Tilghman recounts Donald Hendricks death on March 10 during a tank attack on Iwo Jima. Tilghman describes their close friendship in the 5th division paratroops and notes Hendricks died swiftly after being hit by a sniper bullet. He recalls burial prayers and praises Hendricks leadership and respect among his platoon.
A large Lakeland Club gathering at the municipal building elected officers for the revived group. President S. W. McChesney, vice president A. N. Stevens, and secretary treasurer Ralph Shantz were named. Planes for restocking the lake were discussed with Foster D Raszman of Ottawa speaking on fish stocking and maintenance.
Mr and Mrs Russell Kurtz of White Plains received a cablegram Sunday from their son Lt Robert Kurtz of the air corps recently released from a German prisoner of war camp He said he was well and would soon be home
Miss Luella Rowe former Careyl resident now at Mrs Legg's rest home in Upper Sandusky will celebrate her birthday at the home on Saturday. Her address is 127 East Street Upper Sandusky.
Draft board No. 1 Wyandot county forwards registrants for preinduction physicals on Friday May 18. Two Carey students topped their two-year courses at Tiffin University with the highest averages. Virginia Kurtz led executive secretarial studies with 95.6 and a $10 prize, while Nionald Long led accounting with 9.5 and a $15 prize. Both earned top marks at graduation held last Thursday. Kurtz will join the Ohio civil service in Columbus June 1.
Following a regular Kiwanis session, Carey held a commemoration V E Day service led by Rev Wade H. Koons and Dr. Q. E Ford. Dr. Ford spoke on the war and peace. The next program will feature a book review for Howard Snyder. The book title will be announced.

The Carey Research club holds its annual dinner this Thursday evening at 6 20 at Pilgrim House. All members are urged to attend.

On Thursday May 24 at 8 39 p m a gala event will be held at the New Carey Theatre featuring a premier showing of National Velvet in Technicolor starring Mickey Rooney. Admission requires buying a war bond, with bonds available from 25 to 1000 in series E and higher in other series. The regular Thursday performance is cancelled for this War Bond Show. Leo T Jones announces the drive and urges patrons to purchase bonds at the theatre.
Lt Robert GQ Hayman will report back to Mountain Home Air Base Idaho after a 10 day leave spent with his parents Mr and Mrs Hugh Hayman and grandmother Mrs Jeohr Twining Bishapeg. He is with the Coast Guard at Georgetown St and will return there next Sunday after the leave.
Miss Eleanor McChesney will present a violin recital at the First Methodist Church on Sunday evening May 24, 1945 at 8 15 o clock The Woman's Society for Christian Service sponsors the event Public is invited Vocal numbers will be by Joan Cole and Junior Huston The program includes works by Bach Gershwin Kreisler and others with titles such as Adagio Allegro In the Luxembourg Gardens and Midnight Bells
Pfc David H Stansbery of Findlay Ohio husband of Francanna M Stansbery receives Bronze Star consideration for heroic actions near Mannheim Germany with the 44th Infantry Division 7th Army in World War II He exposed himself to enemy fire to direct and deliver counter fire while wounded and refused evacuation continuing to lead his platoon to seize the objective. Reports note his enlistment in 1943 and deployment overseas in 1944 with a machine runner role.
Fucene Gutermuth and sister Miss Isabelle of St. Charles Mo. bought Mrs. Harrison Stone's home west of Carey park. The sale was handled by John Risner, a real estate broker. Mrs. Stone and her daughters Gwendolyn Linda Ann and Jean depart for Lexington to reside there.
Mr and Mrs Fred Black have bought the lunch room on S Vance Street in the Fos building and have purchased Boyd Watkins property on Glen Avenue in Care. They moved from Sycamore last August and thank customers for their patronage.
The Mighty 7th war bond drive opens in Carey with TD J Frazier as committee chairman announcing an intensive campaign to raise 116 837 in bonds. A large corps of solicitors will conduct house to house visits and precinct captain and committee rosters are listed for Carey.
The rite of confirmation will be administered to 13 young people at Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday May 20 during the 10 30 am worship. Rev Wade H M Koons will preach on Confirm Your Faith. Afterward the Holy Communion service will follow as the confirmands receive their first Sacrament of the Altar. The class previously presented to about 360 attendees in a public examination with George Snyder praising their answers and welcoming them as members. The confirmed are Marilyn Chambers Robert Gatchell Donna Lou Pautterson Roy Platt Charles William Ritter James Robinson Richard Rock Mary Ellen Sammet Mary Carolyn Stewart Fred Zumibach Carolyn Suhlach Fiuy Burks and Elsie Hill. They will wear white gowns and the public is invited.
The Carey W. C T U will observe Mother's Day at a regular meeting Monday afternoon at ? o'clock in the home of Mrs. Hoa Hendricks on East Findlay Street. The notice asks members to attend and participate in the observance.
Hollywood May 4 Lloyd C Douglas author of The Babe sat the Good Samaritan hospital today for the first time in months for the Deep Well ranch at Las Vegas Nevada. Douglas, ill with pneumonia, said he was working on a new novel Simon Peter about Saint Peter.
On Tuesday evening May 22 at 7 20 Bishop Karl J Alter of Toledo will confirm a class at Our Lady of Congolation Church.
The standard congressional district convention of the Townsend club will meet at the Carey public library at 2 p m on Sunday May 20. All are invited to attend for a program and discussion of the Townsend plan. Jacob Nitrauer secretary.
