Narrow Escape From Train Collision at Main Street Crossing

Rev. A. J. Foreman and two children escaped serious harm when a Hocking Valley freight train backed into their Ford touring car on Main street. A line of standing cars blocked view. Foreman stopped the auto just before the crossing. Fenders headlight and one tire damaged. no injuries.

A large Kiwanis gathering heard Hon. R. Clint Cole discuss government, law enforcement, taxation, and citizen responsibility. Wyandot county ministerial association forms county group

Rev L C Reed Rev A J Fore man and Rev W F Martin attended the Wyandot county ministerial association meeting in Upper Sandusky Tuesday. A county wide organization was effected with Rev B E Lienkaemper as president Rev W F Martin as vice president and A G Me Quate as secretary and treasurer. Monthly meetings planned. Stork Delivers Five Newborns to Local Families

Five births are reported this week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Turnbell welcomed a 9 pound son Monday forenoon. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Houk welcomed a 10 pound daughter Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Emory Kear of Wharton welcomed a son Tuesday evening. Mrs. Kear is former Mary Brandt who visited Carey. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hendrix of Toledo welcomed a 10 pound daughter last Wednesday named Choyce. Mrs. Hendrix is former Doris Nickerson who visited Carey relatives.

Building New Home for Miss Frances Riester in Salem Township

Miss Frances Riester of Salem township purchased a lot on Vance street north of the George Perkins residence and contracted R D Perkins to build an eight room modern residence. Construction has started and Miss Riester with her brother William and sister Miss Rose and their four nieces will move from the Salem township farm to Carey to occupy the new house.

Evangelical Church Sets Sunday School and Sermon Program

The Evangelical Church announces next Sunday morning services with the men of the church in charge of both the Sunday school and preaching service. A splendid program will be presented and the public is invited to attend.

Seniors Present Highly Praised Class Plays at Auditorium

A large audience filled the high school auditorium last evening for the Seniors class plays. The program was of notable excellence and drew the largest crowd the venue has ever housed.

Memorial Services Planned for May 12 and 30

Rev A J Foreman will preach a memorial sermon at United Evangelical Church. Ex soldiers meet at American Legion room at 10:00 AM to march to the church. On May 30 a graveside decoration is planned by Grand Army of the Republic with American Legion assistance and flower donations coordinated via Carey Times. A park program at 2:00 PM includes a parade from the library, Mayor Mullholand’s address, invocation by Rev Aloys M Fish, a quartet conducted by Prof J B Moore, recitation by Mrs C G Spencer, and benediction by Rev A J Foreman. Theodore Rosen of Philadelphia, WWII veteran and ex regimental gas officer of the 315th Inf, will speak. Dr R V Vann Buren aided securing his participation. Howard Miller to serve as officer of the day.

Lutheran Brotherhood Meets Here on “Winning Men”

Nearly 30 men attended the Lutheran Brotherhood meeting at the parsonage. Levi Hile led devotion with Alva Criger singing and talks by J. L. Yohe H. G. Chambers H. E. Snyder Howard Milter I L. Culler Ed Kurtz Denver Hart W. G. Bradley Roy Montague and the pastor. Lawrence Wenner was absent as president with I. A. Galbroner presiding and urging tithing of time. The Wittenberg Glee Club concert yielded about 175 gross, a social hour followed, hosts were George Newhard Carl Bachman and Luther Haines. The June meeting will be at A. H. Kemerley’s home.

Building Barn for John S Fox Near Town

Work on John S Foxs new barn east of town progresses rapidly. Charles Wolford of Sycamore operates a saw mill turning out lumber for the project. Fox plans to move the old barn south onto a cement wall with a new floor. The barn measures 40 by 80 feet.

Funeral of Homer Thrall Ends Quietly in Alexandria

Funeral services for Homer Thrall were held Saturday at his West Findlay home with Rev. Lewis P. Speaker officiating. Burial was in the Alexandria family lot beside his parents and brother. Pallbearers included his son L. G. Thrall and relatives. Civil War veterans and American Legion members attended as guards of honor. Residents closed shops for the service and many relatives and friends attended across several towns.

Eye injury leads to emergency operation at Mercy Hospital

Mervin Shaffer, last Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin, underwent surgery for an eye injury after a steel particle entered the ball of his eye at Phelps' garage. He is improving but a second operation may be needed due to a forming cataract.
