The Carey village council sets Clean-up Week May 20 to 25. Residents must place rubbish at the curb by 7 30 am on their scheduled collection day. Businesses should move rubbish to the rear of stores for pickup and containers must be within one man’s lift. Collections cover both residential blocks and the business district with specific street zones listed for each day.

Famine fighters pledge to save grain nationwide
W R Schmidt of Lovell launches the Famine Fighting program urging farmers to plant fully and prevent waste. Trans-Atlantic Call From Germany Reaches Family
Pfc. Richard Bland of Cannon Co, 29th Regiment, stationed in Grohn Germany, phoned his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Forrest Bland in Montrone Switzerland during furlough Sunday night at 7 15 o'clock Swiss time. The call reached relatives after arrangements made on Friday. Bland serves as a radio operator on an armored patrol car with the unit.

Poppy Day Observance Seeks England Wearing Red Poppies
Americans nationwide honor veterans of World War I and II by wearing red poppies on Saturday May 25. In Carey the American Legion Auxiliary will sell poppies with volunteers organized by Mrs Elmer Messmer. Disabled veterans at the Sandusky Soldiers and Sailors Home crafted the flowers to support rehabilitation funds for the disabled and their families.

Local man survives 46 foot fall into fresh concrete
Harold Logsdon 23, son of Mr and Mrs Wilfrid Logsdon of south of Carey, fell 46 feet from a 116 foot level at the Carey Farmers Cooperative Co elevator construction. He landed in wet concrete and suffered a spinal fracture with possible internal injuries. He and his twin brother Herman recently left the U S Marine Corps after service in the South Pacific.

Poster Contest Winners Highlight State Event
The state farmers institute held a poster contest on April 16 in Columbus. Jesse Bland’s poster for Carey 5 Upper Grades won the state prize of 1.7 dollars and four prizes in other groups, while Joyce Wyer earned a $3 fourth prize in the Lower Grade Group. About 40 prizes were awarded per group. Ruby Criger is the chairman of the poster committee.
