May Pilgrimage and Feast at Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation

A novena and pilgrimage begin May 9 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation and run through May 17. The feast takes place May 18 with masses at 7 and 8:45 am, prayers at 3:30 pm, benediction at 8 pm, and an image procession with relic blessing at 2:30 pm Sundays. The octave spans May 19 to 26 with daily masses and evening events.

Carey High School Contestants Shine In District Auditions

The Carey high school music department entered five contestants in the Nonth Central district solo and ensemble auditions at Oberlin College. Joan Cole earned a Superior rating in soprano solo and advances to state auditions in Columbus next Saturday. Patsy Laird piano solo, Richard Doran flute solo, Jo-Anne Franzier and Samuel McChesney trombone solos all earned Excellent. The school band rated Very Good at Fremont district auditions on April 27 and joined the American Legion district rally in Bucyrus last Sunday.

Wallace L. Phillips of the merchant marine arrived at his parents home northwest of Carey Saturday for a 30 day leave. He recently completed a 60 day shuttle run on a tanker between Brazil and Port of Spain Trinidad and has served in the Pacific for most of the past eighteen months.

The Carey Kiwanis club met at the ubey restaurant on Monday evening with a music program by Carey High School. Jo Anne Frazier played trombone with Ann Schira on piano, Patsy Waird offered a piano solo, and Joan Cole sang with Patsy Waird at the piano. Richard Collet 2/c, son of Mr and Mrs Cletus Collet of Carey Ohio, is being discharged through the Navy personnel separation center in Memphis Tennessee after 34 months in naval service with 21 months at sea in the Pacific.
