A novena and pilgrimage begin May 9 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation and run through May 17. The feast takes place May 18 with masses at 7 and 8:45 am, prayers at 3:30 pm, benediction at 8 pm, and an image procession with relic blessing at 2:30 pm Sundays. The octave spans May 19 to 26 with daily masses and evening events.
Norwalk invaded Carey Sunday afternoon and lost two games by 15 to 8 and 10 to 0 marking the Moose softball league debut. Carey power came from Kitzler Keckler and Turnbell with a round tripper and key hits as the schedule is being adjusted for next Sunday's game.
The Reep family led by Rev George Reep and son Mark of Green Springs will host Memorial Evangelical Churchs second Sunday night service. Mark, 13, has a fine singing voice and the congregation is invited to attend Sunday at 8:00 pm on May 12.
A large turnout attended the May 3 meeting of the Woman's Benefit association. Guests included Mrs. Lillian Steusloff and her Toledo daughter, district managing deputy. Mr s Maurice Gaster's side won the attendance contest. a new contest begins with captains Mrs. Frank Troiano and Miss Alice Oge. Members urged to attend May 10 at 8 15 p m.
The group of six performs at Mansfield Country Club Friday night then at the Fostoria Moose Tuesday and Bucyrus Eagles for a veterans party tonight. They headline Galion Moose Saturday and join a Mother's Day program at Kenton Eagles Sunday.
Dr. H. R. Wenner will speak to the Carey Kiwanis club next Monday evening on The Relationship Between Animal and Human Disease, per Rev. Wade H. Koons program chairman for the Month of May.
A Navy recruiting officer will be at the Carey municipal building every Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to accept enlistments. The Findlay station will conduct the visits to recruit interested individuals.
Mrs. V. V. Thomas of northwest of Carey harvested radishes on April 22 and crisp lettuce on May 4 from her garden. Neighbors are invited to share their own early yields.
Carey High baseball improves to 5 wins 3 losses with a 10 5 win over Harpster in the district opener. Johnny DeAmicis and Bob Donelson sparked late offense as Carey pounded two runs in the 5th and five in the 6th after Harpster took an early 3 run second inning. Orians started on mound, N ewell finished, De Amicis drove in two runs.
The Carey high school music department entered five contestants in the Nonth Central district solo and ensemble auditions at Oberlin College. Joan Cole earned a Superior rating in soprano solo and advances to state auditions in Columbus next Saturday. Patsy Laird piano solo, Richard Doran flute solo, Jo-Anne Franzier and Samuel McChesney trombone solos all earned Excellent. The school band rated Very Good at Fremont district auditions on April 27 and joined the American Legion district rally in Bucyrus last Sunday.
A Wyandot county Girl Scouts meeting in Carey finalized plans for the county wide Court of Awards. The ceremony will be May 12 at 3 PM in the Union school building Upper Sandusky. Scouts may invite parents and friends. Carey troops should arrange transport if needed.
Mr and Mrs E C Harshberger visited Perrysville on April 25 as Mrs Harshberger’s daughter Mrs Beach Shireman faced a major operation at Mansfield General Hospital on the 27. Condition is favorable. Mrs Miriam Purnell and son Terry visited Pennysville and Mansfield last week to assist in care of her sister Edith Davidson Shireman of Carey.
Wallace L. Phillips of the merchant marine arrived at his parents home northwest of Carey Saturday for a 30 day leave. He recently completed a 60 day shuttle run on a tanker between Brazil and Port of Spain Trinidad and has served in the Pacific for most of the past eighteen months.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday at 8 PM at Mrs. Wesley Wonder's home 30 miles north of Carey. Arrangements committee includes Mrs. Alfred Gardner Mrs. Leo Beagie Mrs. Charles Hall and Mrs. Wonder.
Telegraph notices sent to all agents warn of curtailment of service on the Chesapeake and Ohio line to conserve coal. About 365 of the road's engines are out of service and trains Nos. 36 and 38 will be canceled through Carey with limited southbound and northbound departures.
Catholic graduates of Carey High School will attend baccalaureate services at the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Consolation at 8:00 p.m. May 19. A male choir directed by Ralph Brown will provide music with Vincent Brown on organ. Rev Benedict Rubek will deliver the sermon. Public invitation extended.
The Carey Kiwanis club met at the ubey restaurant on Monday evening with a music program by Carey High School. Jo Anne Frazier played trombone with Ann Schira on piano, Patsy Waird offered a piano solo, and Joan Cole sang with Patsy Waird at the piano. Dr H R Wenner introduced the musicians and the music committee led the event. Next week Dr Wenner will discuss veterinary medicine and public health. Guests included R F Albers of Frigidaire Corp and Junior Kiwanian Carl Michael Gottfried.
At a Western Conference Luther League executive meeting in Toledo Joyce Snyder of Christ Lutheran Church Carey was named one of three delegates to the Luther League of America biennial convention in Pittsburgh in July. Elizabeth Romig was named alternate and Wade H. Koons advisor with Fredric Snobarger as conference treasurer.
Cpl Margie Bohlen daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Bohlen of Glen Avenue Caray received an honorable discharge from the Women s Marine Air Corps April 15 at Camp Lejeune N C She had been stationed at Cherry Point N C for almost all of the 23 months she was in the service She was assigned to driving buses staff cars and jeeps Miss Bohlen is now living near Wharton with her uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Ira Suber
Local Knights of Columbus received communion in unison at the 8 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine. A 6:15 service offered for K of C members. The Carey degree team exemplified the first degree in Upper Sandusky on Thursday April 25. Major degrees will be exemplified May 12 in Upper Sandusky for Carey Upper Sandusky and Tiffin candidates.
Roy Palmer of Findlay, a village line man, bought the home on Patterson Street from Jesse Spayth, formerly owned by the Gilliland Sisters and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Mullholand. The Palmers moved in Monday.
The T R C club will hold a meeting this Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs Minnie Ruffing on North Vance Street.

Primary returns show Frank Lausche renominated Democrat and Paul Herbert named Republican nominee. Oscar Veith won county auditor, Allan Bolyard defeated Oscar Hottman for recorder. Voter tallies by precinct list candidates and totals, with two county contests the only major races.
George Mathern attended the District 14 Eagles meeting in Tiffin. The Akron Aerie No. 555 drill team led the work and seventeen candidates were initiated. Speakers included past State President George Herman and state officers Paul Hoffman Robert Maemin and Don Reams. A feed floor show and dancing followed.

The Carey high school will hold its 60th annual commencement Friday evening May 24 at 8 30 o'clock in the high school auditorium. The program includes processional invocation salutatory valedictory class address and diplomas with Rev Tennyson Guyer and Dr L E Treece among presenters. A baccalaureate sermon follows on Sunday May 20 at Memorial Evangelical Church and a Catholic service at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine Church the same evening with place to be announced.
Richard Collet 2/c, son of Mr and Mrs Cletus Collet of Carey Ohio, is being discharged through the Navy personnel separation center in Memphis Tennessee after 34 months in naval service with 21 months at sea in the Pacific. He earned the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with three battle stars, the American Theater ribbon and the Victory medal. He took part in three major engagements the Gilberts the Marshalls and the Marianas.
The Carey Booster Club thanks residents for donating old papers and rags collected Sunday due to rain delaying Saturday pickups. A second collection is planned in about three months and residents are urged to save papers and rags for the next drive.
Charles Iden, A M M H 3/c, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Iden, has assumed charge of the Carey Machina and Weld behind Peterson Keller Marathon Service after being discharged from the U S Navy five weeks ago. He served three years and one month as an aviation mechanic, with eighteen months overseas.

Rex Huston of Carey takes an active role in Ohio Wesleyan University’s Monnett weekend production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream. The original production, directed by Prof. R C Hunter, involves more than 300 students from the fine arts division assisting with costumes scenery music and stage technique. The play is slated for Friday and Saturday May 10 and 11 with prior April showings.

Virgil N. Sapp of 206 Clay Street Carey joined the regular army at the Findlay recruiting station on April 29. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on August 24, 1945 after 4 years 11 months in the AAT. His wife Virginia A. Sapp and son Mitchell reside in Carey.
Mr and Mrs Sylvester Myers of north of Carey purchase the furniture and a five room modern Williams home on West Findlay Street. They expect to occupy the property about June 1.
